Interpersonal technical stuff and stubborn people that take the expert position but are not experts. This is like a Ann Flanders post!

“Let’s talk about something else,” I guess. I think that’s the conventional wisdom for navigating conversations with know-it-alls, assuming they’re not that way with every topic.

I can hear my PC think through my speakers

So, yeah, “balanced don’t care” is probably an easier way to summarize. Balanced connections solve a larger set of problems, right? PCs and USB connections are not the only source of noise. Why not address the problem more holistically rather than through isolation of single pieces of equipment?

I can hear my PC think through my speakers

Yes, it doesn’t solve the problem for someone who already owns equipment. Sokel was saying the problem should be solved by manufacturers, i.e. before you have bought the equipment, i.e. for new purchases. What I’m saying is manufacturers should stop selling equipment that only has single-ended...

I can hear my PC think through my speakers

After experiencing noise too many times in the pursuit of sanity, I have a more radical viewpoint. Unless USB isolation solves a bigger or different problem (in the final result) than balanced connections solve, I think time is better spent advocating for the transition to balanced connections...

I can hear my PC think through my speakers

A USB isolator is one potential way to solve the problem. A DAC and amp with balanced connections is another potential way to solve it. What amp do you have? If your amp has a gain setting on the back, another potential solution is to lower the gain as low as acceptable to you. Similarly, if...

Genelec is too expensive in the USA

Their factory is located in Finland. Maybe the overhead is high for import to and compliance in the US.

    NAD C 316BEE V2 Integrated Amplifier Review

@amirm , will this review be published in the index? It’s nice for glancing at multiple reviews side by side.

    Fosi v3 Mono - User Impressions | Owner's Thread

Here are my thoughts on the pair of V3 Monos (and 5A power supplies) that drive my main system. I’ve played audio through them long enough now that it’s more than an impression. My main system has a Topping TP RD3 DAC and two Wharfedale EVO 4.4 towers. One reason I went with the V3 Monos is...

Schiit Midgard Balanced Headphone Amp Review

I assume that “preamp” output means the rear XLR and single-ended connections are variable, controlled by the front volume knob, not fixed output signal. Can anyone confirm that that’s the case? I’ll probably use it as my primary master volume control for my speaker amps, not only for...

    NAD C 316BEE V2 Integrated Amplifier Review

Yes, a pair of Wharfedale EVO 4.4 speakers. I added the “s” to pluralize it.

    NAD C 316BEE V2 Integrated Amplifier Review

This is the unit that I sent. Thanks, Amir, for testing it! I bought this unit before discovering ASR, and what a real treat that it measures decently. I currently pair Fosi V3 monos with EVO 4.4s in my main setup, but it’s nice to know I can swap this NAD in if ever needed. I was also...

New Schiit SYN - Analog Surround Sound Processor

I had the analog-input-only, car version of this in the early 2000s: a Rockford Fosgate RFQ 5000. The Rockford one had a Dolby Pro Logic II DSP, and converted an analog (RCA) stereo signal to 5.1 channels. Like this device, it was universal in the sense that you didn’t have to have a...

Fosi Audio V3 Mono Amplifier Review

I was thinking of workshopping one with wood… but a machined one would be particularly nice and easier to design safely.

    Cambridge Audio CXN 100

To pay that much for a network streamer, I would need it to have an HDMI video output and graphical user interface. Though not nearly as well curated or integrated as a network streamer, I greatly prefer a PC-based solution since I can view it on a TV/monitor.

Fosi Audio V3 Mono Amplifier Review

Maybe some people are obsessed. Some people just think the V3 Monos provide great value and fit their application well. I remember when I built the first iteration of my system last year, the XLR-based amps at my then-favorite electronics dealer started at $500/channel. The price of the V3...

    WiiM Amp Streaming Amplifier Review

From the WiiM Amp product overview: “Craving that extra oomph? Simply add a powered subwoofer to take your audio to cinematic levels“ (https://wiimhome.com/wiimamp/overview). Does it not delver in a home theater setup if the crossover and a subwoofer are used? Usually when I think home...

    WiiM Amp Streaming Amplifier Review

What about a speaker-level to line-level output converter? https://www.crutchfield.com/S-qBuviloCowA/p_543ADP12/Russound-ADP-1-2-Speaker-level-to-Line-level-Adapter.html, for example. If you’re handy with a soldering iron, it’s easy to make one yourself using a few resistors and doesn’t...

Looking for measurements of Elac Carina fs 247.4 and Wharfedale Evo 4.4

Glad I finally found this thread. I’m wiping the metaphorical sweat off my forehead knowing that I didn’t spend so much money (for me) on the EVO 4.4s only to find out that they measured poorly. Lot’s of positive subjective reviews, so I’m glad that there’s also some objectivist consensus.
