The New Advent Loudspeaker Review (Vintage Speaker)

Will never forget, when I worked at one audio store in the 80s, a guy brought in a cassette tape of his favorite test tracks... First song was Emerson Lake Palmer "Lucky man" and he cranked up the volume, hit the loudness and we ran it through some large JBL towers..... OMG the boomy bass...

Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary speaker review & measurements by Erin's Audio Corner

Honestly, I hate to say it, but the Dovedale just seems to be in too high a price bracket. Its a huge jump from the Linton, and not saying its not a great speaker, but just not a good value at all. For its price, I expected it to be a 12" woofer if anything. The "Super Linton" makes far more...

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

The "Idea" and the looks of them are honestly better than the reality of them. They are very common, and I think today mostly nostalgia driven. Not horrible but just not as good as the memories.

Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary speaker review & measurements by Erin's Audio Corner

I would love to see a Linton "Plus" or something to that effect. The same speaker, but with a SLIGHTLY higher price, slightly bigger box and a 10" woofer, instead of the 8" The Dovedale is far too high priced, they need an "inbetween" model, that would really fill a void. Love the Linton's...

Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary speaker review & measurements by Erin's Audio Corner

I am familiar with Arendal, but which specific model to you own? I found Five models with the name "1723 THX" bookshelf's and Floor standers..... :)

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

I owned that Radio Shack sub for several years. 12" dual voice coil. The real crossover frequency was closer to about 200 or so, but OMG that was the most boomy bass sub/low frequency speaker I have EVER heard. The box was ported and obviously too small for the high Qts sub they used. If was...

Yaqin MC-84L Tube Stereo Amplifier Review

@amirm "Conclusions The Yaqin MC-84L made a very positive impression on me with its modest size and super nice industrial design. And reasonable price for such tube products. Performance though, set a new record with respect to how bad it is, taking over the slot for the worst measured...

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

I also owned another full range speaker for years, that looked very similar to the Solo 103 you posted about. Tall and narrow about a foot high. I would guess 1971-1976 time period maybe? But it was $19,95 back in the day and called a Miminus 8 (just looked it up) One driver got damaged and...

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

I think simply they are well built, look great, and with the thin metal cabinet appear tiny, yet still can put out some sound, albeit not great, but good for what it was overall. Not the first nor the best mini speaker, but all the others from that time period were not known by the general...

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

Not to get too far off topic, but years ago had a pair of somewhat similar sized mini speakers from Radio Shack, called the Minimus .5 They were honestly a very cheap 4" full range speaker that in some key ways sounded actually better and smoother than the more expensive Minimus 7 model. It...

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

I actually remember listening to this one the STA-11 with Minimus 7 speakers. Actually with the bass boost on and adjusting the "mid" control down a bit, they became listenable and not bad at all. Not great mind you, but for the size and all.

Any info/opinion on Polk TL1, TL2 or TL3 satellite speakers?

Have heard all of them, and very impressive clarity and decent sound for such a small speaker. Even the TL1 was fairly good. My only issue, not that they "Need" a sub, that is a given of course, but more along the lines, that you can get just as good sound in a slightly larger "Real" speaker...

    Realistic Minimus-7 Measurements

They also had a couple matching small receivers that were meant to go with the Minimus 7 speaker, that had a build in bass boost circuit tailored just for the speaker. It made them quite bearable bass wise. I mean no one expects great bass from a tiny woofer in a very tiny box, but for its size...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

But where you live is pretty much a big city...I said I live in a SMALL town, like I am talking just a few thousand people. And all the towns around me are quite small, like mostly under 10,000 people. ((The population of the Charleston metropolitan area, comprising Berkeley, Charleston, and...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

Hmm.......now wondering why so much variety in internet speeds. Just did a test last nite, and have done it in the morning also(several times) and all I get is around 85mbps download and 23 upload, yet easily able to run Spotify, and video and video with 3 users at the same time all watching...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

I think it varies HUGELY by where one lives. I live in a much more small town area, and records are "Collected" by older guys like me, (50-70 years old) and I literally know of not ONE younger person that owns any records. Really no CDs either. In big city areas, I think records are more of a...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

I love streaming. I love my actual CDs. Honestly though, I find myself almost 100% of the time using streaming spotify on my roku. The convenience, sound quality and ease are simply incredible. It is like having a huge library instantly at my fingertips. I still LOVE CD and have all of mine...
