    how many hours of music?

I will probably listen to one CD today. Possibly Hendrix.

    Is large toe-in recommended

Bingo. I tend to use less toe in as well. I also tend to listen more near field at the moment, being about five to six feet away from the speakers. It is immersive.

    how many hours of music?

    Zero. Music is evil.

$10,000 budget for mains. Used/New, what are you buying?

Hundreds of speaker choices out there these days. Of course you will get the standard replies. But I think it would be a good idea to do your own research. And 10K speakers may not necessarily be any better than 1K speakers. That is for you to figure out. Where to start...

Help a newbie match speakers to amp power

That being said, if you like the look of a certain amp and it ticks all of the boxes for features that you want and you can afford it... Then by all means get it. It's your money and your choice.

Help a newbie match speakers to amp power

There really is no advantage to one over the other if they both can do what you want them to do. The amp with more power will give you more headroom, but if you don't use it then it is meaningless. I used to think that the NAD amps were great because they advertised that their 40 watt amps...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

My son and I have experienced a few SSD drives taking a crap. I still use them but I also have backup. One drive is a 10K rpm white label drive that works flawlessly. I actually have two computers now hooked up to one keyboard and monitor. The second computer has an NVMe drive on the motherboard...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

I dropped the virus known as Windblows a long time ago. Have not looked back. Utter bloatware. Fedora for me. Been using that for quite some time now.

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

Get Fedora. Easy to use and update. I gave up on Windows years ago. You can even make a partition for it and then keep Windblows on the same machine. I believe that it is still on this computer that I am using right now but I no longer boot into it. I consider Windblows a virus. LOL. Or bloatware...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

I have three CD players that I am currently using. One is a Scott DA952A from 1988. It has tray issues because it probably needs a new belt. But once it plays the disc, it does just fine. Second is a JVC XL-V151 from I believe 1992. Everything works great on that unit. No issues whatsoever...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

"Killed off the CD"... LOL. THe CD is far from dead. How many hundreds of thousands (or millions) of CDs are out there and still new CDs are available as well. Also, I like bacon...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

CDs are not going anywhere. You can still buy brand new ones and I often do. I have a total of 4 CD players and there are plenty of CD players available all of the time, both new and used. The entire premise of this thread is a bit ridiculous.

    Are tubes more musical?

Beans are the musical fruit so of course they are more musical...

When do you think DACs became "transparent"?

My Panasonic portable CD player from 1995 is transparent. I consider most modern DACs to be nothing more than snake oil repackaged. People hearing things because that is what they expect.

Has DSP turned us into audio neurotics? [rant]

I understand hte point of the "rant". But this hobby has always been neurotic. I remember back in 1980 when I got my first system and then I subscribed to Stereo Review. Stereo Review was neurosis central because there was always something that was better than what you had. And I even thought...
