RME Babyface Pro Headphone amp upgrade

Higher input levels were initially also my concern, I was afraid of clipping Schiit or Topping input when fed with common pro audio line sources. But weren't any issues with that. BF Pro unbalanced HP out would be fine, as you've mentioned. I also tried some other gear with fixed line level out...

RME Babyface Pro Headphone amp upgrade

Hi and you're welcome, I believe output impedance, voltage and available power delivery are most important factors in perceived sound from HP amp, maybe also noise floor in case of certain sensitive phones (like in case of IEMs for example), other parameters had much lower priority in my...

RME Babyface Pro Headphone amp upgrade

I'd get some relatively simple, reliable external headphone amp like the Schiit Magni or Topping L30 (just speaking about ones I know, pretty sure there are many similar products at price range around 100 EUR). Then I'd use original analog HP out from Babyface as a source. That would be my cost...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

Hi @Confused I've got a reply from Audient regarding iD24. I have a good news, they kindly confirmed me, the unit works the same way as iD22. So it is indeed possible route main mix signal to digital output in accompanying mixer app (one time procedure). As a result the signal will be then...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

Hi Vamp, thank you for sharing this information. I was looking for a manual, but failed to find it at NI website. So in that regard it is the same as with KA6 Mk 1. I've installed this older interface at friend's setup, where he needed transfers from his old DATs and Minidisc archives to a...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

Thank you for the reply. Hopefully he @vamp can possibly chime in to confirm that, because calibration using Neumann software is one thing, but doesn't tell much about available physical volume control for SPDIF out signal. In the meantime I've asked Audient support for confirmation of the...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

You're welcome. SPDIF carries digital stereo signal and has essentially two common flavors - over coaxial cable, terminated with RCA connectors (like analog unbalanced signal), this one is often referred simply as a coax and over plastic optical cable called TosLink, which is referred simply as...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

Mea culpa.. I also double checked the latest Focusrite Scarlett Control software, the digital SPDIF output seems to be at fixed level, compared to some of their previous interfaces. You can essentially control level in monitoring mixer using mouse and onscreen fader there, but you can't assign...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

Are you sure KA 6 Mk2 has option to use volume control for its digital output and route the same main L/R signal to headphones. That's sometimes an Achilles heel of small interfaces without proper internal DSP mixer. That was the case with KA6 Mk1. I haven't used Mk2 and its manual seems to be...

Professional audio monitoring for video editing studio

Hi, I also don't think, it's necessary to be so fussy about used DAC. The pair of used speakers, room and placement has far more influence on achieved sound. I think KH 120 II are good choice given their builtin room correction option. Furthermore it's important to realize, in this case we're...

Review and Measurements of NAD C 320BEE PWR Amplifier

Hi Mr. Christie, it should be quite nice amp for something like Wiim. However it doesn't feature trigger input unfortunately, it has only trigger output. You can power-up some other downstream devices with NAD, but not the other way around, which is what you asked for. So either you can live...

    Tidal is getting cheaper!

You're welcome a good luck with possible migration. Personally I'm still jumping between Spotify and Tidal tough. Tidal has lossless option, if you're after that, and for example their app surprisingly works much better on my ancient phone (1st gen iPhone SE). OTOH I have Spotify family plan...

    Tidal is getting cheaper!

When I try different music streaming services, their apps etc. I usually like to sync my playlists first. Unfortunately free options for syncing typically don't work well or even at all IME, usually there is always some catch or it's abandoned voluntary project etc. YMMV of course. I had very...

USB noise - USB isolator or new audio interface?

Yes, that could be also an option. I almost forget on that one. Have you seen or used some real-world device with that newer AD isolator? As I recall, there was requirement for external 24M clock for its use with 480Mbit HS mode for internal re-clock. Generally I think it is very good those ICs...

USB noise - USB isolator or new audio interface?

Sorry, my bad. I've overlooked it, typed it quickly just after I spotted the picture. Come to exactly same looking isolator recently, which was ADUM based. Again sorry for that. If it really works at 480 Mbit, then it will most likely based on recent TI ISOUSB211 chip.

USB noise - USB isolator or new audio interface?

Nope, those cheap isolators are 12Mbps only, based on old ADUM4160 isolator chip from Analog Devices. It is unsuitable for vast majority of current USB audio interfaces, which require 480Mbs mode to operate. Lifting ground is by far easiest and least expensive first step IMO/IME.

USB noise - USB isolator or new audio interface?

It is quite common issue with certain combinations of USB interfaces and monitors. I'd lift the ground on cables coming from the interface to your monitors. To do that, open XLR connectors at speaker side of the cable (male plug). Then break connection on wire coming to pin 1 -...

Audient EVO 4 [Audio Interface] Review

I'm not 100% sure about design of EVO range, but preamps and DI input stages at many other Audient interfaces and standalone preamps are deliberately "voiced" to have certain house sound. This is is bit different compared to usual aim to lowest distortion from given circuitry among other...

REW J-test measurement on RME ADI-2

Then there has to be some mistake in your setup of the DAC/interface or REW. In your described scenario with internal loopback you'll get just sole clock source in the system, the J test should be perfect. With regards to observed skirting, try to check whether you don't have enabled option...
