    NAS for newbie

The initial intent was that I was looking for local file playback that would work with a Wiim (or any other decent streamer). I mentioned I had been using Moode through a Pi and Apple Music Airplay had stuttered at times (I'm certain it's the fact I'm pushing the music through my iPhone to my...

    NAS for newbie

I’m still contemplating whether I need to plug anything into the router. Might be easier to use the drive with the pi like I am now and just remove my hat dac and replace it with an optical out hat to run to the Wiim. Or even usb out to another streamer if I decide to get something besides the...

    NAS for newbie

2-4TB max. I only have about 800 Cd's ripped to FLAC (44/16) at the moment (all the CD's I still own) and it takes up a couple hundred MB. Will need the space for future CD and download purchases.

    NAS for newbie

Out of curiosity, since I like Moode, but I use iOS products which limits me to airplay quboz/tidal. Could I just use the pi4 with Moode without my IQAudio dac hat and add a spdif hat and run it into the Wiim? Would that allow me to utilize the Wiim DAC for flac playback (with pi4) and utilize...

    NAS for newbie

It would spin down when I had it connected to the Pi, so pretty sure it’s the Asus FW. Not a loss, for now I can put it back on the Pi. At least I know it will work with the Asus. Maybe a little SSD would be better if directly connecting to the Asus. I’m hesitant to change the firmware as I have...

    NAS for newbie

Well, can’t seem to get the hdd to spin down at all when directly plugged into the router. I’ve tried several time settings in the Asus software but no luck. I’d at least like it to spin down overnight as I only listen for an hour or two at most a day in the evening.

    NAS for newbie

I was able to get my little WD passport 2Tb drive running on the Ac68U using the usb3 port. I have SMB1 off on my Win10 pc and was able to access it, so the updated firmware has that issue taken care of. Seems to work fine for now. I’m just starting to rebuild my lofi system from scratch so...

    NAS for newbie

I have to use OpenVPN to access the management interface when outside the network. Usually just to reset the router remotely. Like I said, I’m not very IT/network literate.

I appreciate all the recommendations. Looks like I have a few I can try.

    NAS for newbie

The pi system I currently am using (pi4b with an IQAudio Dac+ hat with an external drive connected to one of the pi’s usb ports for flac playback works fine except it can get flaky with Apple Music, which is what I use. It started stuttering the other day and I thought I was going to lose a pair...

    NAS for newbie

I was thinking a NAS would be the way to go, but I’m open to other ideas as I stated at the end of my OP. If I could get the Pi to work for now then maybe the Eversolo would be the better eventual endgame over the Wiim. My main thing is I want to be able to play the 1000+ CD’s worth of flac...

    NAS for newbie

Thanks. I’d ran across this as well, but wasn’t sure how well it would work. I have an extra Pi3B laying around. https://www.ricmedia.com/tutorials/build-a-raspberry-pi-nas-server

    NAS for newbie

I’m looking to upgrade my RPi4B/Moode/IQAudio with USB HDD (for flaws) player to a Wiim Pro Plus. So I’m assuming that a small NAS hooked to my router would be the way to go? Our house is not wired for Ethernet, so just the ports on our ASUS AC68U is available. I’m fairly IT illiterate, so...

    WiiM Pro Streamer

Thanks everyone for the advice. Just getting back into audio so basically starting from scratch.

    WiiM Pro Streamer

I'm just starting to look into a streamer beyond my Pi4/Moode/IQAudio Hat Dac. I mainly use Itunes/Airplay because I get it with my phone subscription for $9/mo, but Moode gives me fits with Airplay and is inconsistant in its connection. Is the DAC on the Wiim Pro Plus decent, or would it still...

    Recommendations for new setup

My hearing is not the greatest (too much loud music both concerts and gigs I've played), but I'd like to upgrade from my old 2 channel to some new gear over the next year or so. Looking for some recommendations to start with. I currently have some low end equipment that I've had for a long time...

Sold: Raspberry Pi touch streamer for sale $150

Quick question, did you have to use the deeper back cover that is available to use the HFB DAC hat and Pi4 heatsink? I've been looking at building one of these and was curious.
