Has the meta on IEMs moved away from Harman's "pinna gain"?

The Audiosense Aq4 seems to match that target adjustment best (on that graphing tool), though you'd probably want at least one EQ filter to pull down some harshness in the 5-7kHz area...does 180 USD count as cheap for you? Edit: On second look, it will be less than that, because the only way to...

EQ newbie: how much sub-bass is too much for HD650s?

When it stops sounding good and starts sounding bad.

Could be benefits on the production side, assuming good implementation ofc. Low distortion, good extension, better impulse response...we shall see.

How do ANC in headphones actually work?

Great discussion. I also want to add that ANC is better at cancelling low frequencies just because they tend to have a slower rate of change and they always have a larger wave cycle. This means that it is easier to generate a phase-flipped tone within that given time, and also that there is a...

Has the meta on IEMs moved away from Harman's "pinna gain"?

Could also be a consequence of the inaccurate acoustic impedance of 711 couplers in the lows.

Has the meta on IEMs moved away from Harman's "pinna gain"?

I've found the JM1 with a -.8dB/Oct works well for me from 3-10kHz, but I like more highs cuz I like the sense of "sparkle" and "air" and I also prefer no tilt down to 200Hz. I don't know if I fully agree with the idea of tilting the response to match speakers in a room because, well, IEMs...

Jerry Harvey (JH) Custom IEM Review

In practice, whether and at what frequency you hear a resonance peak in your own ears with IEMs depends on the structure of your ear canal and how the IEM interfaces with it. For example, I know that I usually can expect a resonance somewhere between 7 and 8kHz of around 4-7dB that I find and EQ...

Thanks for this. It is clear I was not correct and I don't want to misinform, so I'm going to delete my original comment.

Audeze LCD-X Review (2021 Edition Headphone)

Just adding my input --- my own experience so far also does not support the EQ that Oratory has up. I wouldn't use his measurements for the LCD-X, rather I'd use sine sweeps and comparison to other headphones, speakers, and IEMs that you altready know sound perceptually "flat" or "correct" to...

Has the meta on IEMs moved away from Harman's "pinna gain"?

25 year old here...I agree with you. For me specifically it's the 4-7kHz range that generally is too spicy with Harman, although the "tilted DF" meta that headphones.com are pushing has too much lower mids to me in comparison to speakers. In general my ideal preference curve seems to be...

    LCD-2 and LCD-X - big difference?

You don't buy the LCD-X for the stock tuning. Well, maybe some people do, but not the people who set up an account on this forum, in all likelihood. The lcd-x has great build quality and extremely low distortion, meaning you can literally EQ it as much as you want and not worry as long as you...

The IEM Maze - Features - Eartips, Cables, Vents, #of Drivers, Type of Drivers, Shell Material, etc, etc - How significant are these?

Sounds good. One great application of EQ is also to control for quirks in your own hearing. For example, I always set a band just on the left channel to boost an extra 1-2 dB at 100Hz or so to account for a built in channel imbalance in my ears.

The IEM Maze - Features - Eartips, Cables, Vents, #of Drivers, Type of Drivers, Shell Material, etc, etc - How significant are these?

    1. More is not necessarily better. The number of drivers used does not correlate to the fidelity of the result, and afaik it also doesn't necessarily increase tuning difficulty. In fact, my understanding is that Balanced Armatures are easier to tune. But this is electrical engineering, and I am...

Which IEM with ~500 to 1k budget

If you don't care about the EQ that Qudelix offers, then I think Fiio's version of this is better and you can choose the connector (MmCX/2-pin), although it doesn't offer LDAC codec support. https://www.fiio.com/utws3

    7Hz x Crinacle Zero:2 IEM Review

No, it shouldn't make an audible difference, just measurable. The battery life is noticeably worse on balanced, yeah.

Which IEM with ~500 to 1k budget

Hey, I just made this account to say that whatever you choose, it's worth setting aside like 100 bucks for a Qudelix 5k. It gives you a great way to make your cabled IEMs Bluetooth and it comes with a very detailed EQ to let you dial in corrections to targets for your HRTF. There's really great...
