Adding an external amp to my AVR: Should it improve the performance in this case?

Get a power amp from Emotiva which offers 30-day return policy. Then you can test it out for yourself and see if it improves the sound. FYI I use an external amp with my receiver but my fronts are difficult to drive.

    AIYIMA A07 TPA3255 Review (Amplifier)

Yes, especially because it also happens when you use Bluetooth. It's a digital signal - it's impossible to be unbalanced.

    Topping DM7 8-Channel DAC Review

No, the Dolby access app only helps Dolby Atmos for gaming, not for pre-recorded media at all. The only solution that sort-of works and without requiring $400/year or so is Cavernize. It can map the height channels to Windows audio channels. For example, if you have 7 speakers connected to your...

    Topping DM7 8-Channel DAC Review

There is no way to play lossless Atmos on a Mac. There is no way to play Atmos on a PC. There are a couple of semi-solutions, none of which are particularly practical (eg. this requires conversion and use of a $400/year Dolby encoder license...

Just received firmware update on my Cinema 50, to version 8300-8213-D012-9710 Anyone know what changed?

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

Ok I can understand that if you bi-amp using channels from the same receiver the improvement may be limited. When I think of bi-amp I think of adding an additional amplifier to the existing.

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

Huh?? By bi-amping you're delivering twice the power to the speaker, and to separate drivers/frequencies. Of course it makes a big difference. Provided your speakers actually have two independent sets of binding posts. Maybe you're thinking of bi-wiring. Anyway both the 50 and 40 allow you to...

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

Yeah I think if you use that $1000 for a stereo amplifier for your fronts it will probably sound significantly better than the 40. I have the 50 but power my fronts with a Bryston 4B-SST and I'm very happy with the sound quality.

I connect my Windows PC to the Marantz via HDMI. It can play up to 24bit/192kHz.

    Extreme Snake Oil

This "review" was prominently linked on all the QSA's product descriptions (eg. here, their new £8,000.00 fuse https://www.futureshop.co.uk/quantum-science-audio-gold-extreme-level-uk-mains-fuse and apparently Stereo Times also gave them 3 awards). It's so ludicrous you have to wonder if the...

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

I assume you want to create surround PCM sound from the PC to send to the Cinema 50. I believe you can send 5.1 or 7.1 PCM via HDMI, but PC does not support 5.2 since there is no way to address 2 subwoofers in PCM. There is also no way to send height channels via PCM.

How to use AVR to listen to multich music from PC (display issue)?

I think you will need to use one the HDMI outputs you are currently using and designate it as the audio device, which then goes to an AVR before going to the display. Or if you absolutely want your HDMI to go directly to your display, you will need to use eARC on that display (if supported) to...

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

Found another possible bug: On my speaker preset 1 which was calibrated using the receiver's internal Audyssey, the tactile transducer works fine. On my speaker preset 2 which was calibrated using the Audyssey MultEQ app, the tactile transducer does not work even though it is set to enabled...

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

I was using a *4GB* USB drive. Tried a 16GB one and still noting. Just stuck on "Saving. Please wait...". When I check the USB drive after, nothing is written. No way in hell it would take more than 16GB to save settings.

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

Unfortunately I don't see a way to activate subwoofer for 2-channel music in Pure Direct mode. But I have very big front speakers (28Hz) so it's ok for me.

    Marantz Cinema 50 AVR Review

Just found another issue: saving the settings to USB hangs for me. Tried with both a FAT32 and an NTFS formatted 4GB USB drive. I waited over half an hour before I had to turn it off since it said "Saving..." and was unresponsive.
