    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

In post #8 of the discrete op amp discussion you provided, Amir plainly states, "We are actually (about subjective impressions). It is just that the subjective testing needs to be controlled and be within the cycle of our short-term memory." For anyone curious as to if the differences between...

    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

Inherent bias cannot explain for example, why I am able differentiate Ti OPA1656, Burson V7V, and Sparkos SS2590 on the output stage of a Geshelli J2S DAC in a matter of seconds with a familiar system and material in a blind test. I wish I could attribute this to a special extrasensory...

    dbx 1231 Graphic EQ Review

It does seem insane when the last EQ-630 listed on Reverb sold for $350 and the last several sales on Ebay for units in good working order hovered in the $400-600 range. Then again, unless one is a collector of vintage gear, I see no advantage in spending for a decades old consumer unit limited...

    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

The J2/J2S has received perhaps the most chatter at the HeadFi.org forums, as well as in the comments of various YouTube videos. The original J2 with optional AK4493 and Ti OPA1656 sounded neutral and a bit richer than the slightly more clinical ES9026PRO option, although the soundstage in...

    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

Amir's review from June, 2022 is definitely the J2 / AKM 4493 / Ti OPA1656/TI1612 version. The official release of the J2S with AKM 4499EX was not until Fall, 2023, and has since been expanded to include multiple op amp options.

    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

Where as the V7V is quite detailed and lively, the V7C is reported to be very warm with a vintage-like presentation.

    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

I had Geshelli swap out the J2 board for the J2S socketed board - a service they offer for a fee. Also, because the newer AKM 4499EX is a dual chip DAC, it requires a different board anyway. as for fitting the huge Sparkos SS2590s into the sockets, that was up to me.

    Geshelli JNOG2 Review (Balanced DAC)

I had my J2 AKM 4493 converted to the socketed J2S AKM 4499EX late last summer. I use a linear power supply with this DAC. Mine came fitted with Sparkos SS3602 op amps, but I was able to fit the huge SS2590s all three outputs (XLR & RCA) using one DIP8 socket adapter and one extender. The...

    dbx 1231 Graphic EQ Review

I happened across this discussion via a Google search and enjoyed reading through it. Coincidentally, I bought a dbx 2231 - the slightly fuller featured version of the 1231 to audition after being less than satisfied with the DSP route. The dbx is inserted between the DAC and power amp, with...

3-Way Crossover Diagram (Cerwin Vega) - Opinions and Design Analysis Sought

I've contemplated removing the fuse from the LF circuit and use that holder to replace the PTC in the HF circuit with a ceramic slow-blow fuse of comparable value. Again, I've never triggered any fuses, I agree that some measure of protection is better than none so long as it is sonically...

Thanks again Jaap, this is very helpful and much appreciated!

3-Way Crossover Diagram (Cerwin Vega) - Opinions and Design Analysis Sought

Thanks for commenting and confirming what I believed concerning orders. I understand that the fuse and particularly the PTC are suspect when it comes to audio quality. I've not triggered either with regular use in the time I've owned these enclosures, so it probably wouldn't be an issue to...

3-Way Crossover Diagram (Cerwin Vega) - Opinions and Design Analysis Sought

Shown here is a diagram I made for a Cerwin Vega 3-way enclosure (CLS-215) pursuant to making some parts upgrades. It looks a bit complex to me, and I welcome any knowledgeable opinions or analysis of its design that aids my understanding. From what I can tell (feel free to correct me), the HF...
