    Ugliest component ever created

Is that a riff on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum being built?

Is it time for the traditional 1kHz tone test for amp power to go? (brief Amir name drop)

Aha, thank you, Adam. I have so little grasp of the technical side that any insider “audiophile testing humor” would be waaay over my head, and — embarrassingly — I had not even considered that possibilty, ooba. Hooboy — life has been a little too “interesting” lately . . . I think I need to...

Is it time for the traditional 1kHz tone test for amp power to go? (brief Amir name drop)

Are you asking whether I take it that his statements about measuring are satire? (I do not think they are satire) Or are you meaning my post? (I was being silly, but *[because] I am getting the feeling people are perhaps thinking the Scientific Audiophile is a real person/channel. He can be...

Is it time for the traditional 1kHz tone test for amp power to go? (brief Amir name drop)

I’m curious when the last time was that everybody calibrated their humor sweep meters, and complex load sarcasm inductors. Is there an averaged threshold of audibility level for drollery? I think there may be some high frequency deficits : )

    Legal fund for Reviewers/Erin?

That’s what I meant, sorry if my awkward sentence structure made it unclear who said what.

    Legal fund for Reviewers/Erin?

Lol. That was the “Scientific Audiophile” in his youtube video where he interviews himself playing “Eric Alexander”. He offered to spend his dad’s money to pay for ASR and Erin to lawyer up. He has a running gag that his character funds his audiopihilia audiophilia (is that a word?) by spending...

    Tidal vs Qobuz in 2024?

I respect your ethic of buying a lot of CDs. I do the same, and try to buy direct from the artists whenever I can. If we are discussing best streaming service for each of us individually, OK, that is part of the discussion of how we each weigh out how to support artists within our budgets. Maybe...

    Tidal vs Qobuz in 2024?

Number one is something I have always wished was a bigger factor in discussions of this sort. Thank you, JCM800, for highlighting it.

Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II Streamer Review

Thank you very much for such a thorough and informative explanation! I think you nailed the perfect translation — car wreck — too funny! And has a sonic element to it as well. Real life car wrecks sound sickening to me, so hollow, so deathly, my heart always drops into my stomach . . . not at...

Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II Streamer Review

I was a Midwestern transplant to NYC for eight years. They do not need to test their products because simply being in NYC is proof positive of awesomeness. I wasn't awesome before I went but once I was there I was undeniably better than anybody like me from any other place in the world. Then I...

Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II Streamer Review

Hahahaha! "Engorged!" That is the perfect word for the phenomenon/expressions of praise. That guy with the big glasses who listens to German techno looks permanently engorged. Or terminally engorged.

What a fabulous expression: Outside hooey, inside phooey! Can you attempt a translation of the other expression, please? It is surely as a great as hui/pfui!

Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC and Streamer Review

They should all remind you of fish, because that's what they are named after! You can nominate them for worst product name ever but you won't get my vote. Most audio product names to me seem first cousiny to pharmaceutical names but trying to sound cool or powerful or some other thing that...

    Genelec 1031A Measurements & Review

Well, this cements my thinking that my next (and last) set of apeakers should be Genelecs. This is how businesses should be run. And life lived! For the long haul, with a desire and responsibility to make things of value to living, that last and we can hand down through time. Thank you, Illka...

KEF R Series with MAT white paper

I bought Q15s when they came out (my first speakers!) and I am still happily listening to them as my main speakers almost thirty years later. Sounds like my mind will be blown if I ever buy any of the new KEFs! I’ve read a number of the white papers over the years and have always felt gratitude...

    Audiophiles and "Synesthesia / Chromesthesia"

Richard Cytowic revived scientific research into synesthesia — scientists(!) had come to believe it was bunk — and written several fascinating, serious, accessible books about it. Synesthesia is a world unto itself that extends far beyond perceiving color hearing sound — or vice versa! — all of...
