Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

Have you read the white paper? It does address your concerns and is worth a look. Rob :)

I will NEVER buy a neutral speaker again!

Depends on where the resonance is. If it's out of band they it doesn't matter as much. My Garrard 301 has springs and couple of other ones I have owned have used them as well in their feet. If it helps on a turntable? Rob :)

Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

Take a look at my post the papers explain what's happening. The slot was vertical in the original use and when they rotated in the original Everest it went horizontal in that application. Rob :)

Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

Marketing sure but the design was specific there is an AES paper for it and was designed to be used as an overhead horn in a rectangular room. It keeps SPL uniform over a large area. System was 4660 with 2225 for speech reinforcement For Everest JBL turned it on it's side to use for enhanced...

Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

If it's narrow band sounds like honk to me? That's coloration and I have never experienced that with the horns I have used. In a typical 2 way 15 you would be leaving the woofer behind in a rather glaring way as you completely unbalance the speaker. Rob :)

Focal Kanta 2 towers or Sopra 1 bookshelves with pair of subs?

I couldn't predict that. It's tied to speaker placement the room and your listening position. You are just going to have to try both and see what works best for you. Rob :)

Yeah no it would be used or the newer dual rings if you could get them, they are not dependable as a driver source. I updated my previous post. Rob :)

Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

Hello Duke I had no idea you you were involved with Earl. Yes somewhere I have pictures of his blind testing evaluation with the Sumas, 4430 and can't remember the third. I wasn't there grabbed them off the net. It's really something how things have evolved! The newer waveguides Earls included...

How do we get more people excited about HiFi?

Oh well no your going to have to purchase physical media, have a system to play it back and then invite a friend over to listen. The sacrifice's we made back in the 70's and 80's! Rob :)

Emotiva XMC-2 AVP Review (Sample 2)

I have both the XMC-1 which I use a preamp and the XMC-2. My original XMC-1 was in my HT set-up never got the upgrade board and never had any issues. I traded that in and got the XMC-2 which died in about 1 month with a bad HDMI board. Had it "updated" and it has been fine since the replacement...

Why aren't we bringing the equipment prices down with more published blind test demos?

Hello I have mine set up so I can level match and do instantaneous A/B and it's an eye opener how good they are. I run mine with a sub using an active crossover. You can get a lot of bang for your buck no doubt! With the added sub I can listen to them all day! That said there is a difference...

Why aren't we bringing the equipment prices down with more published blind test demos?

The prices were a good incentive to get me into DIY. Building speakers is a fun part of the hobby for me. Rob : )

Poll: Revel 226Be + sub or Revel 228Be (no sub)

It depends I had a choice to purchase either F-208's or F-206's. I chose the F-206's for size reasons already had a preamp with a built in sub crossover so just added a sub. Sounds great! Also more flexibility to positioning the sub for smoother low end response. Rob :)

Adding an external amp to my AVR: Should it improve the performance in this case?

If you were routinely tripping the power limiter than obviously yes as that would prevent it from happening. If you don't trip it than no. If your not having the problem don't worry about it. Rob :)

Are modern speakers all just overpriced regurgitations?

Hello Having smooth frequency response and smooth off axis response certainly helps. Going back to the early 80's it was recognized that the newer CD horn systems improved the imaging compared to the previous generation of monitors as an example. May not be the whole puzzle but it seems to...
