Shouldn't we upgrade the 20-20 audible range ?!

If you can't hear it why record it? What ultra sounds are present? Do they actualy reach the audiance? Do you also want all the reverb and noise present at a live performance in your home? Yes. Every recording engineer who's ever recorded cymbals knows. There are a few mics that reach over...

Shouldn't we upgrade the 20-20 audible range ?!

The odd instruments have harmonics over 20khz. Mostly cymbals and percussion. https://www.musical-u.com/learn/percussion-frequencies-part-2-cymbals/#

Shouldn't we upgrade the 20-20 audible range ?!

Because all the music is there, seriously. The rest is noise.

Why are music and audio systems with competent bass only recently a thing?

That depends on efficiency. That JBL 4350 is 95db/w. And is down 3db at 30hz. So 100 watts will give you 115db and lots of bass. It is also biampable with an optional xover and then the woofs can handle 200 watts. This is in 1973.

Why are music and audio systems with competent bass only recently a thing?

All the studios I saw had large format mains with 15" woofs as well as the NS10s and most mixers would check there mixes on both.

Why are music and audio systems with competent bass only recently a thing?

I have to disagree. These came out in 1973 https://i.pinimg.com/originals/65/75/9e/65759eb8d7f6c9ce2b42cd4dcaf07892.jpg Tannoys and Ureiis with a 15" woof or two in a large enclosure came out shortly after and all the studios started using them. For home the Klipschorn was introduced in 1946...

    Bass direction is audible

Ah no. The sound hits everything thats the same distance from the speaker at the same time, not everything in the room. Low freqs (<about 200hz depending on your room) don't reflect of of walls like higher freqs there all about room modes.

    Bass direction is audible

A 2 minute test. Play some music, turn your mains off and leave hour subs on. Stand near your listening position, close your eyes and spin around 5 times. Can you point to your sub? Then its directional. I find you need a low f (50ish) steep filter or its localizable (is that a word?) Your...

Those of you who believe measurements aren't the whole story, do you have a hypothesis why that is?

One of your studies was for medical ultrasound. 2 Mhz. Im not wasting my time going thru a hundred studies if there as applicable as this one. Do you have any studies that show there's any useful music outside of 20-20khz? If so you better tell Nuemann and AKG to fix there mics.

Master Thread: Are measurements Everything or Nothing?

Its either reality or not, and its not, its imagination. Are unicorns a reality for some? "REALITY definition: 1. the state of things as they are, rather than as they are imagined to be: 2. a fact"

Master Thread: Are measurements Everything or Nothing?

What has this got to do with "you need to have the necessary insight into electronics theory" ? Danny at BS-zero research has proven nothing and is one of the biggest con men in audio. He knows little about electronics and fills in the huge gaps in knowledge with bullshit. That video is...

These tests were done blind or is this just your opinion? As you noted, this is a science based audio forum and opinions and imagination are not science.

A blind test that dosnt "follow all the rules" dosnt mean much. Hifi "experiences" are almost worthless when there's little agreement, everyone has there own.

Master Thread: Are measurements Everything or Nothing?

So you think there are no physical explanations for what you hear, that something is missing in our electronics knowledge? We can communicate with voyager2 19 billion km away (thats 17 light hours) and detect gravity waves but audio electronics are still a mystery? What exactly can't we measure?

Master Thread: Are measurements Everything or Nothing?

Wow. So the 10km of various material and transformers in your power cable from the substation to all of your gear will dominate your sound signature and the rest of your cables won't matter?
