    CGI vs practical effects?

Well, Oppenheimer did very likely use CGI, the last take where Armageddon starts in Oppies mind (the launch of nuclear warheads) kooks very CGIish. I was also disappointed of the „real“ explosion from the „gadget“. You could see that it was a lot of gasomine burning up. And also untruthful, as...

    Movie Soundtracks We Enjoy

Re-Enjoying James Horner's "Sneakers" from 1992. La-La Land Records released an expanded version last year (LLLCD1629). Even though I heard the original release many, many times, the expanded version is worth every cent, using many cues and takes that were used in the movie but not on CD. Here...

    SMSL SU-1 Stereo DAC Review

Mine has the Rubycons already on board...? And better soldered, to be honest. As far as I remember, one Opamp was "treated" by SMSL in my DAC so you can't read the the designation. See image: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?attachments/rubycon-jpg.310508/

Maybe Amir should review movie theaters

Well, you are not working as a professional DOP. And if you were to read the article, you would realize, that the pros and cons of a medium do not exist. It is always about the versatility of the tools and DOPs think much more about the character of the lenses they choose. Also watching true...

Maybe Amir should review movie theaters

Maybe Amir should review movie theaters

Celluloid only smells when you load a camera with it or edit it, like I did. And watching the same take digital emulated analog or “true“ analog, you won‘t be able to tell them. And there is too many top notch DOP‘s (Like the members of the ASC) coming from Film who embrace digital and never...

    SMSL SU-1 Stereo DAC Review

Could theoretically be that the legs of the caps already introduce noise. But I have no scientific source to cite, it is some time ago I recapped myself.

What seventies / eighties Mono Film and TV microphone could this be?

Many thanks! Could be, but it is hard to see whether it is grilles in front of the Mic (406) or a mesh. Also, the prominent Sennheiser lettering should be visible... Is the sound of your Sennheiser comparable with the "Making of Shining"?

What seventies / eighties Mono Film and TV microphone could this be?

I am not talking about the movie at all, just behind the scenes. And Nicholson gets wired in the BTS footage. BTWYou would be surprised, how much dialogue is NOT from the take you see on the screen. Also very often so called wild tracks are recorded for the sound crew, directly after the camera...

Poll: How do you primarily listen to audio at home?

For leisure, 60% stereo on rather old gear, almost 100% of the source is CD, playback from defunct Nakamichi, eighties to nineties Sony, 3A Audio Design Midi Master speakers, formerly from France, now situated in Canada as Reference 3A. So the average age of my gear is more than 30 years. My...

miniDSP 2x4 HD Sweetspot-audio Mod Review

Maybe they added bypass capacitors for reducing noise at the inputs. Or the highest internal voltage is 9v, so a Low drop voltage regulator is insude, besides the possible need to produce negative voltages for the opamps. Also the DSP needs voltages around 3.3 and 5V so one could tweak there...

    Lenire Tinnitus Treatment

As it is some of us it could be interesting to start a small, simple database: Age, frequency of the Tinnitus, one ear or both, does it seem to cover other sounds or not, circumstances it started,..? I also assume we can use our gear for that, i.e how loud the tinnitus is subjectively received...

    SMSL SU-1 Stereo DAC Review

Hm-I do not find in the datasheet that TI recommends a capacitor between the positive and negative voltage rail: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lme49720.pdf?ts=1702570586634&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FLME49720

What seventies / eighties Mono Film and TV microphone could this be?

In case you did not joke: It was a typo. I own the MKH-416. It longer and the sound very distict, with an emphasis around 3kHz. She did not use it for sure.

    Movie Soundtracks We Enjoy

But as the producer stated in the liner notes, one master tape was very much detoriated, unfortunately the "famous" cues like the beginning and the chase at Mount Rushmore were affected. This can be also heard in the video, the tracks affected sound much more muffled. But the dawn of the digital...

Simon Fisher Turner is missing here - he started composing doing soundworld for Derek Jarman - his soundtracks work completely without the image and are an art of itself:

    Lenire Tinnitus Treatment

The way Mr Rauschecker (literally translated from German: "Noisecornerist") has explained the mechanism is definitely understandable for us ASRers. But for the "remedies" mentioned earlier in this thread, it should have deserved the voodoo corner if the general findings was not that the cures do...

    Lenire Tinnitus Treatment

Devastating to read this thread. I got my Tinnitus in 1987 under a lot of stress and it finally "broke out" the night I drank some beers in my favorite bar - more than the usual two glasses but still being far from drunk. Funnily the Tinnitus is connected (but his music is not a reason for this)...

    THE HI-FI SHOW IN AUSTRIA

You are correct, my bad. "Daisy-Laser" was the Philips subsidiary that offered turnkey-ready transports / players to other companies. According to the snapshots of the wayback machine, it was active until September 2004: https://web.archive.org/web/20040412094104/http://www.daisy-laser.nl/ But I...
