I heard a pair that had had circular woofers installed after the oblong woofers were wrecked somehow. It certainly looked better. But I haven't actually heard the oblong woofers so can't make a comment on the sound comparison.

I'm guessing he may want wider dispersion for the "live feeling". Bass punch could be more attainable from larger/more woofers, but the position or room modes also need to be looked at, as you may have a null in the "punch" région
