'' ideal step response '' vs crossover point

Here are the simulated frequency magnitude responses, phase responses, and step responses. Full range - 2nd order roll off at 40 Hz and 24 kHz. 2 way - Same roll offs as full range, cross-over frequency at 3 kHz, LR2 and LR4 cross-overs 3 way - Same roll offs as full range, cross-over...

RCA Interlinks: Influence of conductor material. MEASUREMENTS.

The horizontal scale is 20 ns per division. That means the frequencies of the oscillations are in the order of 50 MHz.

How NOT to set up speakers and room treatment ( Goldensound)

Dr. Griesinger's method is that, for a highly accurate reproduction with headphones, he records the sound waves at his eardrums, and then reproduces it with headphones such that the reproduced sound waves at his eardrums are as close as possible to the ones he recorded. Since the headphones are...

How NOT to set up speakers and room treatment ( Goldensound)

It has nothing to do with the ear/brain processing. It is what HRTF is about. If you want know how to do it right, see Dr David Griesinger's method. Attached a few screenshots from his presentation. http://www.davidgriesinger.com/Binaural_hearing_and_headphones.ppt

how can spinorama csv data show with zoom possible to see diffrences in bass range better ?

There are multiple reasons for the bass response to not be 100% omni polar. First is there is no truly omni polar loudspeaker. However, you also need to be aware of the spinorama measurement precisions, which affect the measurement numbers too. For example, the determination of the acoustic...

DACs, DIRAC, Preamplification - What am I not understanding?

No, you won't lose the benefits of Dirac. Dirac on the SHD shapes the frequency response curves and perform cross-over for the main speakers and subs. The SHD will then send the two (or three, if you use separate EQ for your subs) sets of signals to the corresponding output connectors. The Okto...

DACs, DIRAC, Preamplification - What am I not understanding?

Welcome to ASR. Placing the Okto DAC upstream of the miniDSP SHD would be a waste. The SHD will reconvert the analog output signal of the Okto DAC with its onboard ADC back into digital for processing, then output the DSP'd signal using its onboard DAC. Why not put the Okto DAC downstream of...

Advice on choosing an amplifier (Speakers: Elac DBR 62, Sources: Digital Music Library, Record Player)

You may want to take a look at the Sabaj A30A. Below is the link to a thread on it with user feedback. No measurements yet. However, the SMSL SA400 by Sabaj's sister company SMSL was reviewed here. It is suspected both amps are similar in performance...

How NOT to set up speakers and room treatment ( Goldensound)

Yep. It took almost 40 years until some genius pops up to enlighten us all.

How NOT to set up speakers and room treatment ( Goldensound)

Dr. Bose might have overdone it with his loudspeakers. But I'd not assume he is wrong in everything.

How NOT to set up speakers and room treatment ( Goldensound)

It is not just Dr. Toole who prefers a bit more spaciousness in the sound from some room reverberations for recreational listening. The discussion below was originally on loudspeaker directivity. However, without a room that has reflective walls, loudspeaker directivity doesn't matter. (Reference)

How NOT to set up speakers and room treatment ( Goldensound)

The simple reason is that the reflected sound we hear in concert halls comes from every directions, not just from 2 loudspeakers, one 30 degrees to the left, the other 30 degrees to the right. Lateral reflections of the room help some, but multichannel works much better.

Another reason for the preference of less reflection is hearing loss. (source)

Measuring power output of a speaker amp to the speaker?

Yes. One must be very careful when measuring amplifier output with an oscilloscope. However, if you don't have access to differential probes (The cheaper ones are usually made for high voltage measurements. They have very large attenuations, and aren't very suitable for amplifier output...

What's Left In Speaker Design To Reduce Distortion/Increase Detail Retrieval?

If you are referring the directivity index curves (sound power directivity index, SPDI, and early reflection directivity index, ERDI) as presented in the ANSI/CTA-2034 spinorama plots, they are simply the listening window frequency response curve minus the sound power curve, or the early...

    The psychology of it all.

Good experimental design will include tests to test the discriminating ability of the testers, such as deliberately introducing known audible differences to see if the testers are paying attention.

Why are single drivers disliked to such an extent by most in this forum?

I am not too familiar with this technology myself. You can look up Google scholar on bending wave loudspeakers and distributed mode loudspeakers, the technology the Tectonic BMRs are based on. It also happens that I have a side project to understand and follow the work of Ronald Aarts and...
