For 1,100 USD one can get a stereo NCx500 based amp from Buckeye (or 1,100 euros for the Apollon or Nord) that has the same power and some 30 dB less distortion+noise, smaller, cooler and lighter. The HC-1 is 2 x 880 = 1,760 USD...

I would go: RME ADI-2 DAC FS - 1050 Apollon NCx500ST - 1100 KEF R3 Meta - 1815 SVS SB2000 Pro - 1200 UMIK-1 - 100 + taxes and freight ~= 5500 euros Start with the first 3, buy the sub and mic later when po$$ible.

For a time I used mine with digital out to a DAC+headphone amp, so I got the best of both worlds (home studio recording + audiophile powerful amp).

It is a dedicated listening room. The DAC will switch between the 2 digital sources: 1. USB: Windows + JRiver + local files. 2. AES-EBU: Pi + AES + Tidal Connect.

Sorry, I did not understand that. Which inputs, what processing? Pi + AES is pretty separate AFAIK.

I intend to avoid Roon as the plague. As having owned an ultraRendu + JRiver system in the past, I prefer not to deal with local streaming anymore. So far Pi + AES looks like a winner to me.
