    CanJam Singapore 2023 (25-26 March)

Unfortunately not, as I went in with the intention of trying a very select range of headphones quickly and picking one to buy at show pricing. In the end I went for the Audeze LCD-2 Fazors as I didn't want to break the bank for the MM-500 or MPL-0, yet found the 109 Pro's bass disappointingly...

    CanJam Singapore 2023 (25-26 March)

Went on the tail end of the second day. No photos but I expect plenty from the Head-fi media corps. Who'd have thought there are so many reviewers with enough of a following to justify flying down for the show. Impressions: Rosson MPL-0 - new, more affordable Rosson Audio Labs headphone...

    CanJam Singapore 2023 (25-26 March)

https://canjamglobal.com/shows/singapore2023/ Anyone going? Might pop by, have sold my LCD-2C, and definitely looking into a side/minor upgrade. Maybe snag a show demo deal. Audeze after EQ are impeccable but the neck strain is immense...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

Yes, measurable structural/material changes at the driver component level does not necessarily translate to consistently measurable differences in the sound waves emitted by the driver (given the many sources of variance in the measurement device and environment). And even if there were...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

Mark Audio was founded by a materials engineer who's obsessed with the pseudoscientific, intuition-driven notion that any microscopic change in the material of the speaker's moving parts will definitely lead to a significant, audible difference in the sound output even when no real change is...

    ATC speakers / Monitors

Hysteria by definition is not substantiated with evidence. Much, much empirical evidence and detailed, clear explanations of what this evidence means was given to the ATC fetishists that they refuse to engage with. Also on the point of unit to unit variation, I don't believe that ATC can even...

    ATC speakers / Monitors

They are also responsible for, and perpetuate, Toole's circle of confusion. Not exactly what people who know what they're doing do.

    ATC speakers / Monitors

So he's deliberately crippling other speakers while designing entire rooms around ATCs and their directivity mismatch, before using that as evidence of ATC superiority.

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

It's the Alpair 12P, but designed to be used with a tweeter, with more midbass capability and a smooth rolloff on the high end.

Have you considered the Alpair 12PW instead? Are you using the BG NEO8? Planar, dipole, 500Hz is a very very small niche. And yes, 20kHz is fantasy, but if one is fine with 14-16kHz, quite doable for a good 3.5-4" driver.

Simulation Overview of the 'Double Bass Array' Configuration.

Well, if one were willing to entertain something as esoteric as a DBA or Horbach-Keele array, surely a high chair is a trifle... Just thought that the concepts had some affinity with each other and could theoretically work together.

Simulation Overview of the 'Double Bass Array' Configuration.

https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/pseudo-coaxial-with-narrow-directivity-and-horbach-keele-filters.284117/ This makes me wonder if a Horbach-Keele array... ...Could be wall-mounted such that the subwoofers in the array form an SBA (or DBA with another set of identical subwoofers on...

    Best sounding closed-back headphone $500-$1,000 for a non-audiophile?

I honestly think the Airpods Max will have you covered. Integrates perfectly into the Apple system, great build quality and haptics, and frankly Apple's R&D and manufacturing resources are incomprehensibly far ahead of specialist, boutique manufacturers. There will be some designs that edge out...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

FWIW I think Mark Audio's design direction is along the right track; well-ventilated baskets, highly optimised cone profiles for dispersion, purpose-designed components for wideband use. But I think Mark Fenlon is similar to Rob Watts (Chord) and Alan Shaw (Harbeth). They are all very competent...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

That's fair, I thought you were talking directivity mismatch between 2 drivers at first. IMHO if there's no mismatch, the narrowing will sound like lesser air that might be an acceptable compromise to some people (like me) in return for increased dynamics in the midbass, lower compression and...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

Not necessarily for the loading on the bottom end, but to smooth out the beaming a little, and for the 2-3kHz loading. Yes I reference this design in my OP. I just think the RS225 is not a competitive woofer now, plus there's the issue of its cone breakup. Moreover, I'm quite skeptical about...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

To be sure I understood you correctly, you mean a polar response like the one drawn in red (which looks like KEF, Genelec or JBL LSR 7xx) is preferable to, for example, the one is blue (which should roughly be what a well-designed FAST with a wider baffle and lower baffle step looks like). Oh...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

Not convinced DIY coaxs are worth the additional trouble of a 3-way XO and cost, given how tweeter response is modulated by the midrange cone's movement, and the roughness in the top octave. Having dealt with a widebander that rolled off from 5kHz (Mark Audio CHP-70) and finding it quite...

Offer to fund driver purchase for FAST design with ASR rigor

A supertweeter crossed high is only detrimental. Crossing so high causes severe vertical lobing issues and even more unpredictable and disjointed dispersion. The point of the proposed design is to have near-coaxial coherence in a large woofer 2-way, without having to add a tweeter, or a coax...

https://www.erinsaudiocorner.com/loudspeakers/linkwitz_lx_mini/ LXMini spinorama and DI looks decent until 16kHz, it would probably perform better with a flat baffle.
