Topping A30Pro Review (Balanced Headphone Amp)

I had a similar issue and it was just dead. I recommend try getting it fixed/replaced under warranty

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

I have built DIY line-level preamplifiers, many phono preamps, and a DAC in the past, maybe I should just build a custom preamp. Not sure if there any good OTS DAC modules these days that can compete

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

Yea M33 is missing 2 functionalities (USB-in is one) so won't work. Thanks for the tip on the Eam Lab Studio DA201. I found the Cyprus Pre-XR also has all the required functionality. Although I am a bit weary of their products because I always see cheap components in pictures of their internals.

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

To be clear, I purchased the amp second-hand from a dealer and I am still within the return window so opt to do that. I'll give Bryston a call but I am concerned that if I choose to keep it and try to repair it, I will be outside the return window if I'm still unhappy with the performance.

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

Looking at the Michi P5, seems like a perfect candidate if not overkill. It would replace the LA4/DAC3/Phono preamp & Streamer, and I would obviously use it with the AHB2. Besides the balanced output for the AHB2, it has mono outputs for subs and a line-out for the tape deck. Curious if there...

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

I'll try to answer multiple comments at once. An integrated amp with MM phono would reduce 2 power cords, a pair of XLR cables and a pair of RCA cables. It would turn 3 boxes into one, that could be put in a centralized location vs. the 3 boxes that are spread out and require longer wires...

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

My listening room is about 22x13x10 and is at the lower floor of my home, which is in a very quiet neighborhood. 3/4 walls are concrete and the room is reasonably treated with GIK acoustics panels. If nothing is playing you can "hear the silence" if you know what I mean. I guess I never realized...

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

OK thanks for the responses. Seems like I'll want to make another effort at organizing the components before looking elsewhere Only if it is quiet. With the Bryston I could tell the difference at low to moderate volumes. At higher volumes it didnt make a difference. And I'm sure that...

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

To be accurate, its not the amount that bothers me but the visual mess around my media cabinet

Integrated that can subjectively compete with Benchmark stack?

Hi all, I am very happy with the sound quality of my system but the amount of power cables and interconnects really bothers me and I'm hoping to somehow declutter / downsize my system without compromising (too much) on sound. The main system consists of Benchmark LA4/AHB2/DAC3 and sources are...

Measurements of Nakamichi Dragon Cassette Deck

I recently finished working on a Nakamichi ZX-9. I am pretty much a novice when it comes to tape restoration but I've done a few by now. Replaced all the belts, idler tire, electrolytics and orange caps. In this case I also needed to disassemble the transport due to seizing of pinch rollers. I...

Kenwood L-08M Monoblock Amplifier (Vintage Review)

I know there are differing approaches and I think I have read some of your comments in this regard. Given that this is a 52 year old unit, I preferred to replace anything that has failed or could fail in the future. I replaced all electrolytics, green caps and small signal transistors with...

Kenwood L-08M Monoblock Amplifier (Vintage Review)

On the topic of vintage audio gear from Japan, I am about to finish restoring a Sansui AU-999 and can drop it off with Amir if there is interest.

Which DIY speakers would you like to see reviewed?

Recently finished Troels Gravesen Ekta mk2 and extremely happy with them. I previously built the Faital 3WC and prefer the Ekta though it is still early. I plan to measure both with a Umik-1 soon. The Adelphos MTM is also planned and I saw that it was one of the speakers proposed in this poll...

Topping A30Pro Review (Balanced Headphone Amp)

Something similar just happened to me too. The unit was on and when I came to my desk I heard a constant clicking noise. Had it for less than a month, only on low gain with easy to drive HP's (LCD-X)... I will work on a replacement or return but this is pretty disappointing.

Which DIY speakers would you like to see reviewed?

Just finished a Cinetor Evo. I don't like p2p for the cross-over so made a PCB for it. Also not great at woodworking so bought ready cabs from a professional woodshop... not cheap but worth it! They are bigger than I expected.... will give them a listen over the next few days. I use ARTA...

    Luxman L-509X

Thanks for clarifying that. That is why I like the Luxman LECUA with the 88 1dB steps resistor ladder. It ensures good tracking at any level and volume adjustment is very smooth. How does large amounts of attenuation impact the measurements, such as SNR ? Isn't most of the signal "thrown away"...

    Luxman L-509X

The Luxman (and other similar Japanese amps) may not be the best choice for high efficiency speakers as their gain is fairly high (only 180mV needed for full output power on the line stage). How sensitive are your speakers? I currently have connected some older Klipsch Quartet's which are...

    Luxman L-509X

The spec says 0.3mV for MC cart (that is for full output power). I recently bought an L-507uX II that uses the same phono stage (likely). I have only tried MM but have an OC9-XEN that I will try soon. Regardless though I doubt the amp would have trouble getting VERY loud with an MC cart that...

    Luxman L-509X

The volume control is analog and electronically switches between resistors that act as a voltage divider. Agree that should be very accurate and a big plus for this design compared to some manufactures that still use $13 ALPS blue pots in expensive amplifiers. To my understanding the...
