    Revel M105 Copy DIY build

Listened more today, and I’m really happy with them. They sound basically neutral to me with good clarity and bass ain’t bad at all. Feels like a decently downward-sloped response to me at first. Subjectively, relative to my other DIY speakers (mostly active, wave-guideless 2-ways with x-over...

Wine thread - what are you enjoying?

I envy you! Looking forward to your report. I hope you picked up the rose as a palate cleanser. Did you cellar these yourself?

    Revel M105 Copy DIY build

I just got home last night and finished one speaker this morning. The drivers seem to be playing their assigned range. Sounds quite good to me right now after very brief listening session with one unit. I'm pretty busy atm but will be able to do a basic couple of measurements to confirm it...

    Revel M105 Copy DIY build

PDF attached. This is based on McFly's drawing, not my own build. Done in Fusion360, happy to send a design file if anyone wants it. Some notes: - Waveguide and Woofer cutouts in the baffle are extruded from the units actual 3d models. When I cut, I add a 1/2 mm or something on my CNC router...

I will post a drawing from CAD to your dimensions when I’m back at my computer, but I think people will prefer your remarkable MS Paint version. My brace is top to bottom because in one iteration, with the huge precision port flanges, it didn’t line up front to back. I think front to back...

Good to know @DanielT. Precision ports have a very large flare, these will be hi-passed, and they're in a small room. So I doubt I'll have problems, but will note this for future reference. Slots are often convenient for placement/box design.

This is what I used - can't wait to wrap it up. Planning on it. I thought I had this laying around as well, but had to wait for a delivery. If you look close, the waveguide is recessed by a small 1/16" into the baffle. After the tape which is almost 1/8" thick before compressing, it will be...

CSS Criton 1TD-X Kit Speaker Review

Not much discussion on this. F3 on the CSS appears to be just below 50Hz (and with a decently smooth roll off), making it maybe not the worst value for those who will not use subs.

Wine thread - what are you enjoying?

We got some extra notes and recs from the winemaker but mostly compiled info from folks in the know. These are finished. The labels might throw you off: they’re just custom packing tape wrapped around the bottle. I like the look. Braised lamb, rancho gordo beans, and fresh sourdough were all...

Wine thread - what are you enjoying?

Ha! Love this. Can't wait. Been buying off the list since the 2014 release, but had only opened one bottle until Sunday.

Wine thread - what are you enjoying?

This happened Sunday. A deep study of Beta Cabernet from 2014-2018. Vare and Montecillo vineyards mostly. In our group of 10, only one was anything like a Cali enthusiast or expert. The wines stunned everyone. Plenty of acid and intensely structured. Some were just over 12% abv, most under 14%...

    Revel M105 Copy DIY build

It’s the original Shaper Origin. I preordered it before launch so got a good deal. Festool makes the router spindle, Shaper makes the rest. It’s Wi-Fi connected and takes SVG files you upload to your “Shaper Hub” (or you can design basic shapes/text/joinery on the device itself). It’s not...

Boxes are done but still waiting on some parts to finish the crossovers (which are large). Thanks again to McFly for offering up the plans, and I'm anxious to hear these soon. 18mm Baltic Birch exterior panels (cost doubled in the last couple years where I am ) with a 1/2" MDF vertical...

Use Node 2i integrated DAC or Sprout100 DAC?

I added a good DAC to my node 2i because of the performance boost on paper. I removed it because it doesn’t make an audible difference and I don’t care for the extra complication/outlets needed in the setup. Don’t get hung up on the nodes performance, especially for a casual setup.

    Snake oil in photography

Hard to imagine a photographer accomplishing more with less than Vaccaro.

Should have three of these (LCR) finished soon. The waveguides from i.materialize came pretty splotchy looking, so I might spray paint them.

    Snake oil in photography

In hifi we’re dealing with reproduction, not production, of original material. It’s nonsense to say a format with less dynamic range, for example, is inferior when talking about a medium for artistic production.

    The Case Against OLED

Not necessarily, maybe they live in a city and don’t feel the need for a large enough home to accommodate this. Over a reasonable amount of time to own a TV like this, the cost difference here is not significant. I have no skin in the game, I just don’t think the logic works here. I spent...

New Audiophiler who purchased Abyss/XIAudio stack looking for opinions

You should consider a DAC/amp from the RME ADI-2 series for the features it has which almost every other DAC lacks. Parametric EQ, configurable loudness curves, etc.
