"Secrets" about the consumer audio business you may find interesting

Absolutely. While internet has made the world smaller, distributors and retailers still are crucial when you want to reach a large market.

    B&O Beolab 20 Speaker Review

Eveything is releative isn't it. While older icePower modules were not among the best, they measured well and above many so called "high-end" AB amps. Plus they gave the speakers plenty of power. Active monitors like Genesis and other brand have generally very little amplification power. Of...

Hypex NCx500 Class D Amplifier Review

Thought I would share a THD+N measurement at 4 Ohm we conducted of the NCx500 with the internal buffer vs our (Vera Audio developed) buffer. We are presently not offering an amp with NCx500 but we're considering it. Take note the measuring equipment itself becomes a bottleneck here when the...

    B&O Beolab 20 Speaker Review

I think that's a bit unfair to say in general. Both Beolab 90 and 50 are very well designed speakers that measures overall well and far above what's common. And the ability to change the beam width is unique. An active design with quality internal amplificiation is also something that has...

    B&O Beolab 20 Speaker Review

You are of course 100% right. My mistake and thanks for pointing it out! Strangely though, the disperion for the Beolab 20 and Beolab 90 are very similar! It's of course the old flagship Beolab 5 that also used the acoustic lens with claimed omni dispersion. Here's the only measurement I've...

    B&O Beolab 20 Speaker Review

The ragged response is likely primarily the result of cabinet diffraction. That's an area you cannot EQ effectively, as it would simply get worse at other angles. Not sure what you mean by limation of DSP. A passive speaker without DSP is far more limited than an active with DSP.

    B&O Beolab 20 Speaker Review

It's interesting to see the narrowing in the highs. The idea with the lens is to maintain wide directivity in the treble, but we can see this doesn't work that well. Edit: If we look at the horizontal polars B&O have published themselves of the much more expensive Beolab 90 which uses an array...

"Secrets" about the consumer audio business you may find interesting

Can't speak for others but we do direct sales and COGS is considerably higher than 30%. I think higher than 30% is quite common with direct sales.

"Secrets" about the consumer audio business you may find interesting

Very true. I used to sell JBL monitors. Even for me, it was almost impossible to contact JBL, and I could generally not get polar meausurements or data I was looking for.

"Secrets" about the consumer audio business you may find interesting

Knowledgeable salesman of audio? Does that exist anywhere? It certainly doesn't here in Norway. They are sellers with very little knowledge and many of them will also sell you snakeoil. If one wants to learn about audio and objectivism, using a local salesperson would be about the last place I...

    Measuring dynamics

Apologies. CBT is short for constant beamwidth transducer. In very short it's line array speaker design where the weaknesses in such an array in regards to summation has been resolved. More info in the links below: https://www.keele-omholt-technologies.com/papers.php...

    Measuring dynamics

Some food for thought. Planar speakers generally have a very narrow dispersion. They also have a large surface area, examplied with the picture below. Planars are also considered to have very low intermodulation distortion. Despite of this, they don't really sound like large horn speakers. Or...

    SMSL D-6 DAC Review

I purchased one of these to use with some PC speakers. I'm also experiencing clicks and pops in one of the channels. Which is not the case with the other sound cards or DSPs units I have. Tried on two different computers with the same result. I bought it from Shenzhen Audio and service is...

I don't care about stereo imaging - am I alone. (Poll)

Imaging and clarity are very much tied. Both require a low level of especially early reflections. I prefer a combination of sharp image and spaciousness/envelopment. Best of two worlds.

    Your loudspeakers are too small!

How many of those blind tests of narrow vs wide dispersion speakers included speakers that had an equal constant directivity in frequency? And how many were conducted with different types of acoustic treatment or room sizes? It's very likely that the wide dispersion speaker under such test...

$30K Budget - On the quest for my "end game" speaker

This is an area I'm also wondering about. While I noticed that beam width became narrower and closer to simulation when going from 0.6m to 2.9m of a 1.1m wide midrange horn, 2.9m still seemed to be too close. I recently learned that Dr Eugen Patronis said to use 10x the largest dimension of...

$30K Budget - On the quest for my "end game" speaker

A large horn needs to be measured in farfield. The CBT can be measured up close.

$30K Budget - On the quest for my "end game" speaker

Floor bounce is one reason as mentioned. Secondly, they tend to loose directivity quite high in frequency. A great speaker design should be constant down the Schroeder frequency. Another cause is how the speakers measure vertically. A wide vertical directivity causes a more uneven frequency...

Vera Audio midrange horn - polar measurements

Vera Audio is developing a horn speaker system. It consist of a midrange horn, a midbass horn and requires a bass/subwoofer solution. It will be active and offered with a separate high quality DSP. The 2-horn system look like the following: I'll show some measurements of the midrange/top...
