Why are AVRs and AVPs so expensive?

I could be wrong but I believe that Arcam/JBL and Anthem use not just the same HDMI chips but also the exact same HDMI 2.1 circuit board.

Why are AVRs and AVPs so expensive?

Consolidation has reduced competition in the market. There are only a few core platforms from which many different brands are designed. There are only a few independent designs. All the rest are just customizations of the OEM board.

Why are AVRs and AVPs so expensive?

There’s a lot of extra features that could be dropped if marketing would allow. Eliminating video switching could bring down cost and likely improve audio performance. My TV’s already have 4 HDMI inputs and one with eARC. Even my $265 TCL Roku TV has them. So I don’t need them in my AVR. I...

    Worst movie ever?

Jazz ♫ Music only | In the now, or recently, or that you love...

Although an old album, its new to me. I understand this was among the earliest digitally recorded/released jazz albums, I’m told nearly all recorded live. I’m impressed by the dynamic range of the recording, and the miking of the instruments seems to put me right in the recording studio.

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

    ZeroSurge 2R15W Surge Protector Review

I’m only interested in the surge protection and no negative impact to power amps. But to be fair, their spec claims 3 dB @ 7kHz, 25 dB at 100 kHz (50 ohm Rgen., load). There was no attenuation measured. EDIT: follow up measurements showed slight attenuation.

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

Yes, manufacturer published performance measures are not as credible as third party published measures. All other things being equal, it would be nice to have third party objective performance measures. Sure, nothing can protect against a direct strike. My losses were very likely downstream...

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

I’m not able to measure the performance, but I trust their measurements, and I’m glad my equipment was protected. https://zerosurge.com/product-oscillograms/

    ZeroSurge 2R15W Surge Protector Review

I'm not an EE. While this seems to be oriented towards commercial applications, it does have some home diagrams, and looks like a pretty good overview of surge protection applications, standards and testing: https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/eaton/services/eess/eess-documents/sa01005003e.pdf...

    ZeroSurge 2R15W Surge Protector Review

Fair enough. I'd not spend a couple hundred bucks without reading what something does and assumed that others would too.

    ZeroSurge 2R15W Surge Protector Review

I think whole house protection is a good idea. But take a look at their comparison of whole house MOVs vs Zero Surge. Is whole house MOV good enough? Maybe, but we get a lot of surges where I live, so I am also using the zero surge on my expensive equipment...

    ZeroSurge 2R15W Surge Protector Review

What box did you see this? The product uses a "series mode filter" vs MOVs to protect against surges. It makes no claim to do otherwise from what I can tell. Here is their explanation of how their technology suppresses surges https://zerosurge.com/how-series-mode-filters-work/

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

For performance metrics, here are the specs for the unit I bought. https://zerosurge.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2R-Series-04-22.pdf I sent one to @amirm for testing a while ago but he has had a lot in his queue. EDIT: Country of manufacture may or may not be indicative of performance, but...

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

Fair enough. I do unplug everything when I’ll be away for a while, and that’s the best way to protect equipment if you have advance warning. While lightning surges are rare (I’ve suffered losses two times in 50 years), we do see a lot of unpredictable power outages not from lightning, but trees...

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

An electrical storm that completely charred circuit boards and components in my whole house generator and another appliance. So I’m sticking with the zero surge.

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

We had a close lightning strike that took out other equipment in our home but not this. So go ahead and LOL.

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

Unlikely. This is a different technology than cheap MOV devices.

Zero surge and surgeX are overpriced as hell

I use the two outlet zero surge. I have a beefy surge outlet plugged into it, protecting thousands of dollars of equipment. Having spent maybe $250 on the zero surge I feel it’s well worth the money to have a never fail protection.

Subwoofer didn't help fixing null. What do? (not buying 2+ subs) (presonus sub8 vs kali lp6)

Keep in mind that nulls are usually steep and narrow when you remove all graph smoothing. That’s often just a few notes on an instrument. So while it may look bad, you may not even notice nulls when listening to content. https://www.liutaiomottola.com/formulae/freqtab.htm
