The most wonderful thing I discovered last year thanks to Youtube recommendations :

Hania Rani, young (30 yo) pianist and Polisch composer, all her stuff is great. Here with Neels Castillon realizing the film.

And the current London Jazz scene with a lot of very talentend and young musicians (they have 30-35 no more !) from Brownswood Recordings (Gilles Peterson's label) :

Nubya Garcia, tenor sax :

Maisha, a collective :

Femi Koleoso on drums, tribute to Tony Allen (RIP)

Some others :

Kokoroko, African-roots collective :

Alfa Mist, pianist :

With the great Yussef Dayes on drums : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwVtIPeYIeQ

Ashley Henry, pianist, London too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrfPT3naJRI&feature=share

From US the great great (and young too) Kamasi Washington https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtW1S5EbHgU&feature=share

Plus the always Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah.

I got into this thinking it’s just background music. I was wrong. Some avant-garde stuff in there but hopefully you’ll be convinced much before. Play from the beginning. Darkened room with visual patterns on a big screen helps (underwater slomo screensaver on Apple TV did it for me)

I love their angry sound. Not a bad song on this album.

John Martyn, Solid Air dedicated to his good friend Nick Drake who would pass away around a year after this. Amazing album and an incredible mess of an artist, influenced many people.

A Ferron song. By the way, I highly recommend the Ferron album Shadows on a Dime. It is an album much like Van Morrison's Astral Weeks which stand out above all their other material, an album that has great coherence and poetry.
