I haven't built much for a while, so I'm a bit out of touch with the DIY stuff.

There are a quite a lot of headphone amp kits/designs out there, but many don't give any indication of the performance of the finished amp and given that these days you can buy a finished headphone amp with state of the art performance from Topping, JDS Labs, SMSL, etc. for under $200, its quite hard recomend the DIY route on value for money terms.
