Are "audiophiles" composed of more introverts than extroverts?

I generally find that music appreciation is better alone, is that trait a common one here?
Are most of you intro or extroverts?

way introverted -- except -- I am perfectly comfortable giving a presentation or lecture to dozens or hundreds of people.
In fact, I enjoy the bejabbers out of it.

Chatting with a few semi-strangers at a party, on the other.hand.. umm, yeah, no.

As to audiophiles' Myers-Briggs personality type... no idea. ;)

Exactly like me, total nerd, just talk about anything of real meaning and I am all over it, but just hanging out is hard :)

I can hang out with folks I know well & enjoy it immensely... including some of the local hifi gurus.

Though I can certainly see an interovert strain in the audiophile community at large (though that may be presumptuous of me),
I'm an extrovert and so are my closest "audio pals."

I vastly prefer hanging out with people than doing almost anything else, and sharing an activity always elevates it for me. That's why I love having friends listen to my system with me, and I like going to friend's houses to listen.

I have an expensive purpose-built home theater and several of my friends wonder why I come to their place to watch movies...even one who until recently only had an old crappy CRT tube set. "Why would you ever come here to watch movies instead of staying in your home theater?"
Because to me watching a movie with other people is a better experience, that overrides whatever technology I'm viewing. I much prefer to go out to the movies than watch a movie in my home theater for the same reason. I like to get out of the house, experience things with other people. I come home feeling like "I did something" rather than just stayed inside and passed the time.

I'm thinking that the process is naturally introverted, usually involving a degree of concentration better suited to solitude.

Also, if you're in headphones: well, there you are.

Of course, you are actually Paid to do things audiophiles do, so I'm guessing that you'd welcome a break.

I like to get out of the house, experience things with other people.

Maybe it's an age thing.

Through my 20s, 30s and 40s, home was the last place I wanted to be. Sure, I was an extreme audiophile, but it took a distant 2nd place to friends, socialising, travelling, wine, women and song.

Now I simply don't care much for people other than my closest and dearest friends and family. There's always so much to do and keep me engaged at home. Electronics is never boring and I'm a happy homebody. A few of my friends the same age are still partying like it was 1999 and I just shake my head and wonder if they'll ever grow up. A mid 50s mate who hangs out in 20 something's night clubs, gets wasted and I have to drive him back a few days later to find his car...

I'm neither.

From what I have read in psychology, introvert/extrovert is not actually a binary that everyone fits in one or the other slot. That's just pop culture way of looking at it.

Socially I have always been comfortable with people in pretty much all situations with two exceptions being my Doctor and Dentist.
But when it comes to system listening/music selection I fly pretty much solo. My wife loves to listen but is more of the music is background so she is not a serious listener.
Over the years I love it when friends come over and ask to listen the system and I reel through a number of my favorite selections, I sometimes wonder if they really get it or are just being nice.
Count me as happily in the middle neither "in" or "ex".

Back in the day my friends and I would gather around music, preferably live. As I got older most friends got absorbed with jobs/kids/homes and moved away and all that. For audio these days yeah more an introvert altho some of my friends definitely prefer my audio setups vs their own....but we don't really gather for that purpose, rather more for drink/food/conversation.....

When my dentist retired I considered it a tragedy of Biblical proportions. He had no staff, his wife was the receptionist and many of his clients could not be named in conversation, there was never another patient in the office when you came.

As for music no one in my family likes much of what I listen to.
