I haven't read the whole thread so some of these may have been posted before.

Here's something for the folkies:

Carthy, Hardy, Farrell, Young - Laylam

Four of the best voices/fiddlers of the British folk scene. Mostly just voice and fiddle. Will really test your speakers!

Especially Better Home and Wide River stand out. Compare the latter with Diana Krall's version – both great but very different treatments. Available on Tidal/Spotify.

---

The Unthanks - A couple of cheerful Northumberland lasses who sing complex, melancholy folk-inspired music tinged with 70s prog, American serialist avant-garde and clog dancing! Check out their cover of King Crimson's Starless. Not much of their stuff is on Tidal but there is more on Spotify. All of it recommended.

---

Trembling Bells - Glasgow based psych-folk heavily inspired by the likes of Fairport Convention, Incredible String Band, Steeleye Span etc. There's more depth to this than the retro stylings would suggest and Lavinia Blackwall has an amazing voice. Sadly they have split now. Available on Tidal/Spotify.

This is from their last album and probably the best song title ever: 'Christ's Entry Into Govan' ;-)

---

And from folk-rock to folk-jazz. Pentangle were probably the greatest and most experimental of the 60s/70s folkies. With the magnificent voice of Jacqui McShee in front. Most of their best stuff can be found on Tidal/Spotify.

Good call.
Now that you mention it -- tracks from Tigerlily and Kind and Generous from Ophelia are often on my demo list at any given moment.

This is what I hope to be one of a new of super valuable music threads where we highlight music that is exceptionally recorded and is a joy to listen to. The latter of course varies from person to person but let's only post music we really like, not just because it is "hi-fi."

To that end, let's start with female vocals since that is often used to evaluate equipment. And at any rate, it is one of my favorites things :).

And let's make sure it is easy for members to sample and buy this music. In all cases please type in the name of the track, album, and artists. Album art is great but is not searchable in all cases.

When you can't, put in a link to some place where the music can be sampled. If you don't, don't be surprised that I edit your post to add that :). Which is fine by me by the way if you don't want to take the time to do it.

Thanks everyone.

Hello and thank you for this thread. I have a 5.2 system as well as a desktop system of quality components. Your choices of content shared has allowed me to enjoy this fabulous music and I'm so grateful. A 50 year veteran of chasing the best quality I can afford brought me to your site and the five hours I spent reading the forums allows me to respect all your members. Again, extremely grateful.
Keep up the good work and hopefully manufacturers will stop trying to dupe us.
