I have a particular interest in this project for a couple of reasons; I spent many years at Rolls Royce Aero Engines in test and development working on the EJ200 engine thats powering the car. The project is also based in Berkeley in the UK where we used to live, at the now decommissioned nuclear power station where I also worked.

They have been performing tests in South Africa prior to next years record attempt and have exceeded 600MPH / 1000km/h.

Just a bit of extra info, on the data display

AJ= nozzle area
NL= low pressure compressor speed
NH=high pressure compressor speed
TBT=turbine temp

Just need to fit the rocket motor :)

Pretty neat stuff. How much thrust were they using on this run do you think, and how much is possible from that engine. I read it can produce 13,000 pounds of thrust without afterburner. That would be something just over 21,000 hp at the speed they achieved. Though maybe they aren't maxing the engine out yet.

I thought this was interesting when they used the old Challenger 2 with some upgrades to break 450 mph with two piston engines. 2500 hp each or 5000 hp total.

Window view.

Dash view

View from outside on a 416 mph run.

Whoa...

How slowly do you have to display the sled to even see it?

Tried .25 speed playback of the 1/4 speed, still just a flash...

And that's only about 1/3 of what you need to get into orbit...

Its 20200 lbs with reheat (afterburner)

They ran the engine past 100% NL/NH so full whack :) However I cant tell you if that is true 100% or limits they have placed in effect.

The additional rocket motor is required for break the record and reach 1000mph.
