Primary (elementary) schools in Western Australia are showing improved student outcomes after introducing a classical music education program based on El Sistema.

"A music program that pairs children from disadvantaged areas with classical musicians from the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) has been shown to have a profound effect on their learning. Schools have reported higher NAPLAN results and better social and emotional wellbeing among students since becoming involved in the Crescendo program."

I know Finland also places an emphasis on childhood music learning with their Kodály-based system. We are musical beings and we ignore it's importance in schools to our detriment.

One of my local elementary schools in Japan had a crack marching band but not quite up to that level.
