Making my own RCA -> XLR cables

I’d suggest wiring as the second picture, only sending RCA black (sleeve) to XLR pin 3, and jump to Pin 1. That way if you do get hum, you can easily clip the jumper wire. Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

    Studio monitor speakers without hiss?

Agreed! Kali doesn’t even offer a S/N spec. That should be a red flag right there... https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a6a2d73bff200e7e9dde1f9/t/5d76d5215043af20c0b4f213/1568068899305/Kali-Audio-Lone-Pines-LP6-and-LP8-Full-Specs-Sheet.pdf Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

    Crap XLR vs Decent RCA

There was a thread a while back on this subject, and someone floated this cable as a good budget offering that has Neutrik connectors. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/867219-REG/Kopul_m3010_Premium_Performance_3000_Series.html And, @Blumlein 88 has had good luck with Monoprice Premier...

    Crap XLR vs Decent RCA

The problem with cheap XLR’s is that they have cheap connectors that don’t hold up. Often they are not even made to spec and will easily wallow around in the chassis connector. Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

High SINAD, low power, low cost power amp - does such a thing exist?

Hard to find one with wattage that low, but it’s not hard to find good used pro audio amps with less than 100 watts in your budget. Crest PA150, Ashly SRA-2075, and the Crown D-75A are a few. Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

    USB to 12V trigger input?

Sounds like your idea would work, as long as there isn’t a milliamp issue (i.e. the trigger requiring more than the USB has). Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

    USB to 12V trigger input?

Voltage question aside, it likely won’t work because an amp’s 12v 3.5 input uses a TS (mono) plug. That one is TRRS. Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

Advice for the equalization of low frequencies

Not sure why you believe anything posted here will be better than hundreds of other posts you’ve read, but I’ll play along. :) For starters, any subwoofer equalizing is going to tax headroom, whether you use positive- or negative-gain filters. The common situation is that there are one or two...

My first youtube interview... I am famous now!!!

@Amir, @Mnyb – thanks for clarifying. :) I'm guessing the latency issue is why AVR manufacturers aren't utilizing wi-fi for rear channels. Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

My first youtube interview... I am famous now!!!

Right - I didn't state it well. I meant high levels of noise (which or course is a lower number). Regards, Wayne

My first youtube interview... I am famous now!!!

Great interview, I found it engaging enough watch the whole thing. Nice to put a face to the name, Amir! I was surprised to hear that the actual SINAD on most amplifiers is so high. Amir, one thing does puzzle me was your comment that wi-fi streaming is as good as directly from a local...

Please suggest a reasonably inexpensive power amplifier for my setup

What @Doodski said – at $200 you should be looking for something used. An advantage to active speakers is real estate saved (no outboard amplifier needed). Regards, Wayne A. Pflughaupt

Why do most home 2 way systems have 6.5" woofer?

My understanding is, with larger woofers the upper frequencies (mids) don’t disperse well but tend to “beam.” As a result, a larger woofer in a 2-way requires the high freq driver to operate down to a lower frequency. With most 6-1/2” two-ways, the tweeter crosses over in the 3-4 kHz range...

Is Digital EQ really superior to Analog EQ?

I’ve had issues with Rane EQs, but I didn’t get any audible noise or distortion from the AudioControl 1/3-octave GEQs or Ashly and Symetrix parametrics I’ve used. Never used them myself, but Orban (commonly used in broadcast, I think), BSS, Klark Teknik, TDM and White Instuments all had stellar...
