Many times we just like to play a CD, perhaps from beginning to end, perhaps a few songs. It's liberating. No apps, no phones, no waiting time, you can browse some liner notes. We like it.
Update
Many thanks everyone for the tips. You guys rock. I think I might have found what I needed. Just purchased this one
https://www.thomann.de/intl/tascam_cd200.htm
Seems to have all I need and nothing I don't
remote
reasonably clean/simple to operate front fascia
tray loader, front
small...
Thanks. Seems like a top loader so it's out as per initial post.
Edit: I am wrong, and you did write it's a front loader. Sorry. Will look into this.
Edit 2: 2000$ so way out of budget. Thanks anyway
Yeah.. I'm leaning towards this one
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/hifi_components/cd-s303/index.html
Half the price of the current Marantz/Denon crop. I just wonder if it'll be much worse mechanically. I just can't stand super slow tray loading and slow CD recognition. Wish I...
Thanks. I have done that. All FLACs ripped via EAC, tagged and complete with cover art for 1K+ CDs.
I do need to also listen to actual CDs in parallel though, both because sometimes I like the experience, and also because my wife prefers to listen to CDs rather than browsing via a phone app etc.
I'm putting a Hi-Fi setup back together and I need a CD player/transport as I still have loads of CDs.
I will exclusively use its digital out into my existing DAC (a Benchmark) so I'm not fussed about internal DAC performance and analog outs.
I know I could theoretically buy any DVD/Blu-Ray...
Thanks. I'll look into these options. I'm tempted to go back to what I used to do. I might just get any old used CD transport and retrieve my old Raspberry PI3+Allo Digione SPDIF from the loft. Then I'll go
CD: CD transport -> optical -> Benchmark DAC
Flac files: RPi3->Allo-> coax -> Benchmark...
If anyone else is interested in this - seems like a new generation of CD players are out that do something close to what I need
https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/cd-players/dcd-900ne
Sadly, the USB HDD flac playing capability appears to be limited: the device seems to only be able to browse...
Looks good. This could go into an external DAC/preamp via SPDIF, correct? I could do
Wiiim -> spdif -> Benchmark DAC
Any CD transport -> optical > Benchmark DAC
Yeah. I used to do this for many years. A small netbook running foobar2000 with a USB DAC and two RCA inputs into my preamp. Worked fine.
However, I am looking for a one box solution. Needs to have a higher WAF than a netbook in my living room and plenty of tiny boxes. Hence I was wondering...
Thank you Kal. I'm trying to understand if there's a way to send FLAC files to my DAC or speakers without using a PC or Raspberry Pi at all. I guess I'm just unsure whether say something like this
https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/usa/en/products/hi-fi/cx-series-2/cxn
would be able to scan and...
Quick follow up- Just found out about Roon as an alternative to Foobar2000:
https://roonlabs.com/howroonworks
Any streamers as above able to browse FLAC files via Roon?
Hello everyone,
First post here (please MODs move my thread elsewhere if chosen section not appropriate) So I'm trying to reorganise my hi-fi listening setup around the sources we most often use around the house. Like for many people, my old setup can play CDs and records but it's blind to the...
