    Any good CD player/transport around?

I had been about to recommend the 6000CDT because it has worked very well for me (it's never failed to read discs which my computer drives can't rip with dB power amp and my blue ray player doesn't manage), but Restorer-John is one of the members here who seems to have a pretty encyclopaedic...

Hullo, would you consider shipping to the UK?

Spotify to launch 'Hi-Fi' CD Quality Tier.

I didn't see this comment when I made my earlier one: apologies.

Spotify to launch 'Hi-Fi' CD Quality Tier.

At least as of ~ 5 years ago, live and merch would generally bring in the bulk of the income to most performing artists (obviously it was different for session musicians, composers, & cetera) for the kinds of artists able to fill a ~500 pax to ~5k pax venues. At the very top, the marquee...

    Are you using a subwoofer/subwoofers?

Thank you for the tip! My speakers are as close as possible to the wall behind them; probably ~50mm. I'd say that's to minimise cancellation, but that would be an enormous lie: they are placed to minimise the cancellation of space in our living room :) I'll try putting in a steeper low-pass...

    Are you using a subwoofer/subwoofers?

Disclaimer: I know nothing about sound reproduction, and very little about music. To the people who haven't tried sub-woofers because their preferred kinds of music don't require the production of very long wavelength sounds: if you listen to much music which has not been recorded with close...

Streaming services: classical Music, any Primephonic/Apple updates, other?

Well, I would suggest that unless Vialma has something in its catalogue which is missing from your other service(s) which you *adore*, then Vialma is best left alone for the time being. Search is poor. For instance, "Franz Josef Selig" returned "Franz-Josef Selig" as the last artist result...

Streaming services: classical Music, any Primephonic/Apple updates, other?

I'm not sure if it's any good or would be of interest, but I was just served an advert for Vialma, which is apparently a specialist jazz and classical streaming service (I'd never heard of it, so it may be new). I'll check it out this week-end and try to compare it to the other services I've used.

Streaming services: classical Music, any Primephonic/Apple updates, other?

I tend to use Idagio primarily for its radio and playlist-type functionality. I use Spotify as my primary channel to new music (to me), but I find the radio/playlist functions steer me to the avant garde very quickly for classical and jazz (great for pop and rock), which I don't really enjoy...

Is miniDSP 2x4 HD really that bad?

I have one and am completely satisfied for my own use (110 Hz and below). Possibly it's not the last word in low residual noise. If you have other MiniDSP devices and prefer the use of a remote control, however, you may be in for an unpleasant shock: a selection on the remote control of one will...

    Michael Fremer Leaving Stereophile?

Thank you, watchnerd! I've not been to a hi-fi tradeshow, and didn't know of the female-voice-as-benchmark-concept. I think I couldn't resist using Flanders & Swann's Song of Reproduction as my audition piece, if ever I got to go, though. I've never owned any of Diana Krall's albums nor heard...

    Michael Fremer Leaving Stereophile?

I've thought about asking this ever since I joined the site, but haven't, for whatever reason (thread pertinence, most likely): why do people often allude to Diana Krall in relation to hi-fi? I can never tell whether it's an approving reference or the opposite. Is she a famous hi-fi enthusiast...

    KEF LS60 Wireless Just Announced

I think tolerance for equipment footprint varies a good deal by location, even in urban areas. A person with the same relative income and marginal propensity to consume audio products in London or Zürich may have 40% of the floor space vs. Phoenix or Brisbane.
