Totally agree, the improvement in bass quality / definition with a dedicated sub + high pass filter to the main speakers isn't marginal...

I wouldn't change power amps. Is there an actual problem with the Marantz amp now? While I'd prefer bass management for both...

I would prefer not to add a preamp and continue to use the A8 preamp filtering by its DSP, connect the sub woofer with speaker level...

I think a small sub would be much more musically rewarding than a new amp.
