turn off 7020hz:Well ,jazz hi hats are too mute with this.+3 db is a good compromise for musical genre other than jazz and classic
125 hz:better than 105 hz ,bass is really pushed forward,i like it ...but kick drum too :-(+3db is too much ,bass sound is a bit dull, less precise.+2 db is fine!it works marvelously with voice recordings like Norah Jones, warm et smooth!:D

here my compromise:160 hz +2 db lowshelf to give kick to bass wthout pushing kick drums.:p

My final EQ(funkateer edition):cool::

Preamp: -6.9 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 568.0 Hz Gain 2.60 dB Q 1.000
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 20.00 Hz Gain 3.80 dB Q 0.500
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 568.0 Hz Gain 2.60 dB Q 1.000
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 20.00 Hz Gain 3.80 dB Q 0.500
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 48.00 Hz Gain 2.90 dB Q 1.500
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 189.0 Hz Gain 3.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 60.00 Hz Gain 1.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 2200 Hz Gain 4.40 dB Q 2.000
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 4.10 dB Q 2.000
Filter 10: ON PK Fc 7020 Hz Gain 6.10 dB Q 2.000
Filter 11: ON PK Fc 5310 Hz Gain -1.90 dB Q 2.000
Filter: ON LSC Fc 160 Hz Gain 2 dB Q 0.707
Filter: ON HSC Fc 11000 Hz Gain 0 dB Q 0.707

Thanks for your work!
Why having twice a 568 Hz filter?

my mistake ,edited and my 7020 filter is down to 3.1 db:facepalm:

If you put filter 7020 hz to 3.1 ,lowshelf to 125 +2 db,you get a real balanced and lushy sound,i like it a lot with voice recordings. My Eq is more for "shake your booty" music:p

Quick question: what is the purpose of the last filter at 11000 Hz with 0 gain?

It wouldn't have any purpose, it won't do anything if the Gain is zero. The purpose of that filter is to tweak the "air" aspect of the headphone, but of course you'd put in a positive or negative gain (dB) in there to tweak it according to your own taste - when I did the initial EQ that is the purpose of this filter.

Nice! Here are my settings:

Preamp: -10.0dB (Just to be on the safe side. Feel free to correct me on this.)
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 568.0 Hz Gain 2.60 dB Q 1.000
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 20.00 Hz Gain 3.80 dB Q 0.500
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 48.00 Hz Gain 2.90 dB Q 1.500
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 189.0 Hz Gain 3.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 60.00 Hz Gain 1.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 2200 Hz Gain 4.40 dB Q 2.000
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 4.10 dB Q 2.000
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 7020 Hz Gain 2.75 dB Q 2.000
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 5310 Hz Gain -1.90 dB Q 2.000
Filter 10: ON LSC Fc 125 Hz Gain 2.50 dB Q 0.250
Filter 11: ON HSC Fc 8000 Hz Gain 1.00 dB Q 2.000

I like the extra "air" Filter 11 provides.

The thing I've noticed is the volume you generally listen to has a massive effect on low and high shelf filter use. According to frequency/amplitude based sensitivity, people who listen loud will require less boost at either end of the spectrum than those who listen at lower volumes.

For those who might use these cans with movies, here are my settings:

Preamp: -6.8dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 568.0 Hz Gain 2.60 dB Q 1.000
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 20.00 Hz Gain 3.80 dB Q 0.500
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 48.00 Hz Gain 2.90 dB Q 1.500
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 189.0 Hz Gain 3.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 60.00 Hz Gain 1.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 2200 Hz Gain 4.40 dB Q 2.000
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 4.10 dB Q 2.000
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 7020 Hz Gain 3.50 dB Q 2.000
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 5310 Hz Gain -1.90 dB Q 2.000
Filter: ON LSC Fc 100 Hz Gain 3.00 dB Q 1.000
Filter: ON HSC Fc 2000 Hz Gain -5.00 dB Q 0.150

Keep in mind, I don't like to listen too loudly. In general, when I take the cans off while playing music, the sound is just audible not screaming at me like I've heard from others when they take off their headphones.

Same low level listening for me, i never exceed 70db.Closed Headphones apply a real sound pressure on ears, contrary to open ones. But i must admit that sound is so good that I'm always tempted to turn it up:p

About Black Friday, i didn't notice better price on Closed X than 379 dollars, am i right ?

Yeah, they're still at that price but now for pre-order, details state that they start shipping mid March - I just can't get myself to pull the trigger, and order them from the UK, pay up front, wait 4 months for them :(

You usually don’t have to pay until the headphones are actually deliverable, afaik. Back in the day, massdrop used to open up preorders for a while and only charge after the preorders were closed. The tax stuff is a bummer, however. But getting them at $379 kinda softens the blow.

Good things come to those that wait?! If you want a closed back headphone, and you like what you see & the price is good, then why not.

Indeed, and I don't even mind importing to the UK, still quite a bit cheaper than DCA offerings in the UK. But I'm also impatient, and I'm also grasping at any reason not to spend more money :)

I must have been a very good boy this year as I think Santa might be bringing me the Aeon Closed X*, a Topping A30Pro and D10 Balanced.

I would be grateful if anyone could please suggest a source for sensibly priced XLR to Hirose. The Dummer XLR is on Thomman UK for £93, which seems disproportionate when a pair of 1/4 TRS to XLR interconects can be had for £10 (but please do correct me if I am misthinking!)

Many thanks.

* Although I hear that his sleigh is giving him trouble and that he might not get to Surrey until March.

At $470, better to just by from DCA to choose the XLR connector. Although you could probably buy a really nice upgrade cable for £93 from the likes of Hart Audio Cables

I confirm that Hart Audio provides nice cables for DCA headphones. In particular they offer a nice system which allow to get a cable with switchable connectors for an attractive price.

Thanks. I suggested the DCA shop to Santa, but he saw the BF deal on Drop ($379) and thought that I might as well have the unbalanced cable for "free" so that I can comapre them!

The Hart Audio cable looks nice (thanks @ririt too). One question - does braided sheathing, by rubbing, generate noise through to the cans? I wondered if a smooth cable surface (like the Dummer on Thomann) might be better? Interestingly, the Dummer on the DCA website is braided.

For the benefit of future folk stumbling upon this thread, these are the sensibly priced* (incl. P&P to UK) cables that I have found (which includes Hart Audio):

As is the way, I now have more questions...

1 - The second from top (Mavis Mods) offers a choice of 4 core vs 8 core cable. Any comments on that? I'll only have a length around 4.5ft.
2 - Is it worth paying for silver plated copper over litz? Oidio, 3rd from top, charge more for it

* I retract my initial gripe reg. pricing of these headphone cables vs XLR interconnects, as the cables for the Aeon are bespoke.

I am just listening my Aeon closed RT connected to a Qudelix 5K using Hart Audio cables ( balanced 2.5mm conector). no noise induced by the cables! Their quality is very good!
