Such a big box with a big knob but 2 little meters. :(
Not only that but What Hi-Fi says it, Say it ain't so Joe. LOL
  • Lacks rhythmic precision and dynamic punch
  • Sound staging could be more expansive

Meters are over-rated and old-fashioned.
Recently got some small Monoblock's which are light on power and have a Meter on each.
(got them based on their pricing, not the fact they have meters)
Using with speakers of 88.5dB sensitivity, the Meters don't even move.

I would expect you need something like less than 70dB sensitivity speaker's to get them moving all the way, and even then the movement is slow and disconnected so. . .

OOOOOO, Your in trouble here. LOL

It is just an opinion of course. I think good design will require deletion of meter.
Maybe have just a hidden red under-glow light to flash if amplifier is close-to clipping.

I have a similar attitude towards “tube” design.
There is enough energy being converted into heat with audio equipment already (amplifiers/speakers etc), and some feel the need to use tubes which convert even more energy into heat.
Then the tubes fail regularly and you have to find yourself replacing them, even if you remember to turn the amplifier off (which is recommended to extend tube life).
Sounds very old fashioned. . .

So I take it this beauty wouldn't be your thing. :D

I thought that one so so until seeing it from the top down.
Sorry but it’s horrendous, like most all Mcintosh.
It is half as bad if you just saw what is in the photograph you posted.

From previous posts you will see that my opinion is less popular in a thread with “jewellery” in the title.
But I see “beauty” in good design.

The least offensive design I see here is:

Another angle:

Obviously - alignment is also obviously optional!

My previously posted Gold Note Mediterraneo is also Italian, but seems to work well nonetheless.
Obviously I was referring to the stripes :). The Siena Duomo is a wonderful building.

I'm not sure the Decca DS9000 has been outdone for looks. It had it all. Green tuning dial, opposed VU meters, sliders and knobs and a nice wooden case.

Can anyone find a better photo?

And you could wall mount it too, although the label text would be upside down.
