Because my video reviews try to cram information about the speaker, subjective thoughts and objective data, I have found some of my video reviews tend to run longer than I want them to. Therefore, I have decided to start splitting up some of the more "nice" speakers in to two videos: "before the review" and "review". Otherwise, they would easily extend over the 30 minute mark for a single video. The "before..." videos will allow me to talk a bit more about the technical aspects and give them their just dues rather than blowing past them in lieu of getting to the data or subjective thoughts.

This is my "before the review" discussion of the Dutch & Dutch 8c active bookshelf speaker. It is a ~$12k USD/pair active bookshelf speaker featuring cardioid design where all the energy above 100Hz is forward-firing. I provide some highlights, information on the design and discuss general features that I may not otherwise have a chance to provide in my final review. If you don't care anything about that, then don't watch. I'll post the full review once I finish it but that could be a while out. Otherwise, I hope this is useful and you find it entertaining.

That’s a massive ‘bookshelf’ speaker...I kept thinking Erin has placed it much closer to the camera compared to himself till he reached out to it to rotate it.

LOL. Like I said... my head is normal sized... it's not small. It is, indeed, a very large bookshelf speaker.

Looking forward to your review, you always do a great job of it. This is going to be pure audio porn for me because I cannot ever imagine plunking down so much money on a speaker+amps.

Thanks, man. I appreciate that.

You and me both. I'm just happy to have the opportunity to get to play with such a cool toy. I don't want to get in to the subjective now but I will say these speakers are freaking incredible!

Very good explanations, and nice Bob Ross surprise. I would love to see you test the Kii’s next!

Thanks. A few others have requested the Kii as well in the Youtube replies. I’ll have to check in to that speaker and see if there is something I can do to provide such a review.

A comparison of the 8C and Kii Three and Genelec 8361A would be amazing

If you guys happen to have any pull with Kii or Genelec, you know what to do! :D :D

Once I finish this review of the D&D I will try reaching out to Kii and Genelec and seeing if they'd be willing to send loaner samples.

the real BIG MATCH!

some background to prepare all of us...:

Kii Three has DSP Active cardioid pattern from 50Hz up to 250Hz by 6.5 inch back and lateral, then from 250Hz to 800Hz by playing with lateral Woofer and front midrange up to 800Hz where the baffle size enter in the game and control directivity up to 1.5kHz where the DXT take the control over 20kHz...
Bruno Putzeys explains that much better than me and it's worth to listen to him:
go to 7:30min

Kii Audio Three loudspeaker Measurements | Stereophile.com excellent review by @Kal Rubinson

D&D is omni up to 100Hx where cross to 8 inch side opened to cancel lateral and read emission up to baffle directivity (guess similar to Kii) and then waveguided tweeter from 1.2kHz upward.
-again our @Kal Rubinson on the blocks with another excellent review and @John Atkinson WoW on the measurements: Dutch & Dutch 8c active loudspeaker system Measurements | Stereophile.com
here an interview to the brilliant designer and D&D CEO Martijn Mensink

I believe those are top notch XXI century design...
good luck @hardisj !! we're all waiting for your reviews
Best Wishes of Healthy Year End to All ASR community

Being different design this would be interesting to see how they measure.
Dont know if this is important but video in the first post; at 6.10 to 6.14 there is an overlay of small frame video of different topic. I am ok with it though.

Thanks for all the speaker reviews.
Regards.

addition : I understand measurements take long time and requires hard work. But since these are designed with new concepts, what if we put some small panels on side ports and measure again to see the difference. If it is too much work please ignore. as we are already obliged with various reviews.

Really looking forward to your review, your directivity globes will be very interesting.
Do you have a way of measuring hiss, if there is any audible.

I could probably figure out some rudimentary way for speakers where it is a problem but since I'm not hearing any hiss from these I won't bother.
