In general what is better, 2 smaller monitors and a sub or bigger monitors?
Both would be overkill in a small room anyway.I'm flexible about where I'll sit I just can't decide
I'm afraid the 8030 will sound "smaller" than the 8050 but on the other hand maybe the 8030+ sub will actually have more bass and will have more spl because the sub will take some of the work.
What do 8330 and 8340 have better sound-wise compared to 8030 or 8040?Would take a pair of 8330A or 8340A + GLM kit instead of these.
Room EQ via GLM, I presume. Plus, the 8340 actually plays substantially louder than the 8040 (8040B barely surpasses 8030C in level handling, while 8340A almost reaches 8350 terrain). Bass handling still is likely to be mostly a matter of driver performance as excursion would be a greater factor than amplifier power, but still. What do 8330 and 8340 have better sound-wise compared to 8030 or 8040?
@AnalogSteph said most of it, and the crossover/subsonic filter being implemented in DSP allows them to be optimal. The 8340A and 8350A are actually kind of a niche, since the 8040B and 8050B have been left behind. What do 8330 and 8340 have better sound-wise compared to 8030 or 8040?
Heresy! Is it possible to add a Neumann KH 750 sub to the Genelec monitors? The Genelec sub is just too expensive unfortunately
Not entirely the same thing obviously but I run a pair of 8020D's though an Adam Sub7 in my home office. I have the Adam with high pass filter at 85 Hz feeding (and taking the load off) the Genelecs. The combination sounds superb! The Adam sub has is cheaper than any Genelec, it's more powerful and has a remote control to adjust both volume and frequency. It's a great combo with the Genelecs.Heresy!
No, but seriously, if you can live with the risk of being burned at the stake , I don't see why this would not be possible. There is some overlap between the KH750 output level settings (94, 100, 108, 114 dB @ 0 dBu in) and the 8030C input gain control range (between 94 and 106 dB @ 0 dBu in), so I imagine getting the levels dialled in would not be too problematic.
Do you have enough SPL? Do they sound like small speakers?
