I've used this unit as my amp for my speakers for a long time and love it.
After this review though it seems that what I learned on avsforum may have some room for improvement. If I understand the review (and conclusion which is easier for me haha) it really looks like I need to eventually upgrade this amp.
Currently I love it though I have the original 1500 and it's been in use for 6+ years now.
Edit: I can't imagine you'd not be well received at avs forum diy section. I'm sure many members would send you other amps for measurements too.
The crown XLS is a crowd favorite there which is why it was my first amp.
The inuke and the lab grupen Chinese clone amps would be very interesting to see tested and I'm sure you'd easily have someone send you one as members are ordering new amps all the time.
Now that I know you test home units, there is no way I'll buy one without checking to see if you're able to receive and test it first.
It depends how loud he likes his music, I doubt any many people are using this amp for near-field desktop listening, it would be a little bit over kill.
I use this amp near-field on my desk connected to my phone pc or ipod.
I have seen tests on avsforum where people limited speakers that were 99+ sensitivity rating to 1 watt and it was loud as hell.
I just like having the headroom... I haven't been using surround sound since I've moved twice recently, so I only had lcr set up, and that I powered off my inuke (center off the receiver left 1 channel unused and had a sub powered too. It's the 4 channel one). So I just had the amp unused and the surrounds unused so put them on my desk. I'll use 6.5 inch woofer bookshelf speakers on my desk!
