$35. That's a reasonable price to pay for those of us who have computers that lack these outputs and the motherboard headers for them.

Pardon my ignorance. I have an ancient nad m51 that cant do dsd but i want it to be able to do it. Would this smsl po100 be a viable solution? Like decode the dsd then send it to the m51?

I was ignorant, too. I did some poking around, and the answer seems to be no.

I played a Neil Young DVD-A in the Oppo via HDMI, and the NAD M51 displayed the correct 176.4kHz sampling rate. I then grabbed an SACD of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells and popped it in the Oppo. Uh-oh. This time the M51's display read 88.2kHz—clearly, an SACD stream fed to the M51's HDMI input will be downsampled to PCM. NAD has confirmed that the M51 can't accept DSD audio via HDMI, but can accept SACD playback if converted by the BD/SACD player at up to 24/192 PCM.

Is there any way that his can be used in the opposite direction? So toslink/spdif *input* and USB audio *output*?

I very much doubt it.

I just got mine.
The PO100 is a pure output device:

Installing the Thesycon driver unlocks its native ASIO interface along with a Control Panel:

Power consumption is 0.63-0.65W depending on sample rate.

I think this is similar to the Topping d10/d10s/d10b without the analog out hence smaller size.

It's not a dac, it's just an optical/coaxial interface.

I connected this device to my mac and Amazon HD, and the optical out to my amp.. Amazon music says the device is capable of 24bit/44.1kHz. Unlike the box which says it's capable of 192kHz. I can only get the blue light come on (44.1kHz), not the red as they claim (above 88.2kHz). I'm playing HD and ultraHD music.. am I missing something or is the spec wrong? If you can run it at higher than 44.1kHz and get the red light, please let me know.

macOS will resample all audio to one uniform sample rate.
Search for "midi" in the spotlight search, select the "SMSL USB AUDIO" device, and there you can select the sample rate. The LED will change color accordingly.

Thank you!!! that did it... I knew that if I were to ever find the answer it would be here! Thanks again!

Hey guys.

I bought an SMSL PO100 interface and put it to play.
I noticed a sound like "tec" and decided to take a measurement to try to identify a problem.
I used the SPDIF input from my Motu Ultralite MK3 interface.
See the video I recorded here.

Of course I also made a video showing a loopback between Motu's SPDIF input and output.
Loopback between Motu interface SPDIF output and input.

I tried changing the sample rate, both at 48kHz and 44.1kHz.
It continued in the same way.
I also tried to reproduce the 1kHz signal using the interface connected to my Android phone using an OTG cable, and the result was also the same.
So... I was awarded a problematic SMSL PO100 interface? :(

So would this be a very good choice just to get optical coax output to an Anthem MRX 740, there is no analog bypass on the inputs so all analog inputs get sent through the internal dac.

@Arpeggiator yes, there's a control panel with volume sliders:

UAC2 hardware volume control should work as well so long as you stay in UAC2 mode (haven't checked yet)

Edit: Yup, UAC2 HW vol control is there as well:

Something else, SMSL writes:
Please kindly note that PO100 input cable does not support type-C to type-C wire. If your device needs the type-C
interface to connect to the PO100, please use another hub and the original cable in the accessories.
That is very weird and I didn't see this in any other device before. Did anyone try to use another generic USB-C to USB-A cable instead of the original cable? I would need to use a longer cable than the one provided. Reviews on amazon confirm USB-C to USB-C cables won't work.
