@tvrgeek,. I really hope when you compare DAC you don't just swapped DAC without voltage match.
I didn't know that there is no output standard before I joined ASR. I thought I could just swap DAC and whatever difference I heard is due to the type of DAC chip used.
To my surprise, I later found out that DAC do not output same voltage when being fed same signals.
Here is what given to me by Topping engineer. Top portion is xlr outputs of different DAC, when being fed same signal. Bottom two is for RCA output
So, if you do not voltage match, simply switch DAC around, one DAC will be louder than most. That DAC likely is the one that would let you hear certain harsh tone more than other.
So, again, would you please confirm if you did any voltage matched listening?
