Hi,

A friend is doing a project that will involve up to 30 musicians individually mic’d, with each signal sent live to an individual speaker, located underwater up to 30m from the mic feeding it.

He wants to know how best to send each signal to each speaker. Bluetooth is no good because 30 signals is too much for a single space, and apparently won’t transmit underwater.

Any ideas how he might manage this?

Thanks,
Andreas

Aren't there amplifiers driving those speakers that are not under water?

Good question. They are waterproof battery-powered active speakers apparently (little things).

Solution: our dear friends at AudioQuest make a “Water” interconnect cable. Won’t that work in this application, unlike their Earth, Wind and Fire cables?

Wow. That's an unusual setup...

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I think that the closest thing to an off the shelf solution would be stage use pro audio transmitter/receiver pairs with dome DIY waterproofing.

They won't be cheap, and you'll have to seal them inside plastic containers or something, their ~500-600MHz (at least the US models...EU probably has slightly different frequency allocation) won't mind 30' of water nearly as much as Bluetooth's 2.4GHz does.

Somebody probably make waterproof ones already, but individual body pack receivers can already ~$300USD or more so fully waterproofed ones would probably be insane.
