Thanks, Ray and everyone else who supplied details about the measurement mics.

I expect to measure at the listening position in two rooms and do some fiddling with placement and perhaps some DSP. Then the gear will be stored for quite a while. I preferred to limit the amount of stuff to be purchased and stored.

I have several camera tripods so I would prefer to use one of them. The chairs at my listening positions are easily moved; a camera tripod would work.

I found a plausible looking Samson MK10 boom with a microphone clip at the end for $ 20 at B&H.

I may just stick withe the Radio Shack meter and a camera tripod for now.

The threaded hole in the base of the UMIK-1 "cradle" is larger than the threads in my standard-type Velbon VE-3 Camera tripod, which fits the hole in the bottom of my Nikon and every other camera and binocular holder I used with it.

That's what Old Listener asked: "Does the bottom of the cradle have a socket for a standard camera tripod screw thread?"
Yup but, if one really wants to use a tripod, there are adapters.

This is like waiting for the next episode of Game of Thrones. Part 3 soon please!

I tried REW with miniDsp mic a few years ago and got frustrated with the interface. I got it to spit out a file that I then tried to load into jRiver and jRiver wouldn't accept it. I then tried to see if I can have REW replay the test tone with the EQ applied so I can validate the output giving me a flatter response but could not find a way to do this - if this doesn't exist, I am confused, because its so basic. I am probably missing something as usual.

I wouldn't even call this automation. It is simply having the program take its own output as input - a simple loopback interface of sorts. It is just common sense to validate it before actually using it. I was completely baffled when I couldn't figure out a way to do this. Is there another Room EQ software that supports this?

First dummie adventure into room eq. Using my second setup as guinea pig. Intend to load whatever corrected result from REW into Roon (convolution file?).

Second System: SilentPC (i7-8700 running Roon) -> SingXer SU-1 (DDC) -> Onkyo A5VL (Class D w. onboard DAC) -> Evolution Acoustics MicroOne's.

First output from my measurement using REW v5.19 Beta 8 with a umik-1 mic.

Now what?

Any good advices on how I move forward with the result I have?

How about waterfall graphs?

Based on this graph there should be room for improvement in the bass region. I'm not sure what the best approach would be though... Perhaps a multisub-solution with cheap subs which is crossed over at 100 hz?

I don't want to have any more equipment in this room, so no subs.

I guess my question is how to process the result from measurements and generate something I can load into Roon correcting whatever needs to be corrected.

Edit: Waterfall graphs does not show anything!

Okey, since I'm a dummie in this area didn't realize I had to generate a Waterfall diagram:

Ok, fair enough! As for applying correction, I think it's difficult to accomplish without dedicated software. You can try out the trial version of Dirac live nd see what you think?

The reason I asked for waterfall plots is that recent psychoacoustic studies suggest that decay time in the bass region correlates well with preference. Less decay time in the bass (particularly in the standing waves) = experience of tighter and better bass.

Just found this guide in Roon's Community https://community.roonlabs.com/t/a-guide-how-to-do-room-correction-and-use-it-in-roon/23800

Cool. Looks like there's overshoot in the bass between 40 and 55 hz, roughly. I guess you can try to reduce that peak manually in Roon? I have no experience doing that though, have only used Dirac!

Are the lab measurements useful when room EQ them?

The room dominates the low frequencies.

I have JBL LSR 308, here's the vendor's representative lab measurement:

In-room at listening position right speaker:

With "corrective" DSP at the listening position. You can twist the response however you like, I chose this.

Thx,
how did you do the DSP corrections? Manually by listening or through eg REW EQ (note I'm still dummie in this)?
