Tool supplied for spreading cooling paste. Note that HDPlex recommends to have no cooling paste between block & CPU. While at IBM I had access to some research material, this corresponds quite well with their findings as long as the surfaces are good enough. The cooling block has a mirror polished surface so should be good enough.

Roon Bridge Linux package installed, works just fine with the iFi iDAC2 connected.

The internal motherboard graphics is really bad, 8 years old so what do you expect. Intended to also use PC for NetFlix in new mediaroom, wont work! I'll most likely tear out everything and do a new build with new components. Let's see, can't reveal these plans for spouse.

Very nice documentation and pictures! On the last bit, I bought the latest and greatest CPU for that reason, i.e. so that it wouldn't get obsoleted. Then I hooked up my 4K TV to it and realized it only goes up to 25 frames/second! Boo. :( So I too may have to replace it or get a silent graphics card should that ever develop.

Now there is a good idea! Why not turn it into art for the home?

I'm looking into a z270 motherboard & Kaby Lake CPU which has the HD630 graphics.

Excerpt from - - > http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...i7-7700k-i7-7700-i5-7600k-i5-7600,4870-2.html below:

" Intel HD Graphics 630 - Gen9.5 Brings 4K To The Fore
...
The Gen9.5 engine supports up to eight simultaneous 4Kp30 HEVC and AVC streams, along with real-time 4Kp60 HEVC decode operations at 120 MB/s.
...
There is an odd conundrum with 4K Netflix streaming. Netflix requires PlayReady 3.0 DRM and hardware-based 10-bit HEVC decoding, which is a combination currently only available with Windows 10 and Kaby Lake processors. Skylake and its predecessors don't support 10-bit HEVC decode. Nvidia's 10-series GPUs support both technologies, but cannot stream 4K yet."

Never been into video myself so Amir your video verdict is required on the above.

Looks like Kaby Lake with Windows 10 would be the right solution. It is good news in that until this came out we would have needed to put in a high-power gaming card in there which was bad news from heat and noise point of view.

Dang those are some pricey CPU's. If I were to be interested in a new build I'd wait a year till they're yesterdays news. ;) Being a early adopter always comes with a stiff price tag.

Prices (leaked) seem like typical of Intel so not a premium over what I paid:

But yes waiting always helps.

Always pointing out ways to save cash, that's what I do. ;)
