All dome tweeters have an “oil-can” resonance. In the case of soft domes it is damped to reduce audibility but is in the audio band, in the case of a well designed metal dome it is too high to be audible and therefore pointless to add damping and increase the dome mass, but look like a scary...
I did consider that but decided based on the recordings I enjoy it would be a waste of money for me.
I have listened to some music blurays and films both in stereo and in "low budget" surround (it isn't that low budget I have a Genelec 8341a centre, Meridian rears and a REL Studio sub it just...
Most of my recordings are stereo and my preference for "high fidelity" is more to an experience than anything else and I have never experienced a live concert from the middle of the stage, classical, folk or rock.
I have been intrigued by Q-sound 3D effects on stereo recordings like Roger Waters...
I do too and this comment lead me to having a blissful evening yesterday enjoying 5 and 6 - almost overload even to me a Mahler enthusiast for almost 50 years now.
Mahler’s music is very dynamic, far more than most record companies are prepared to release to the public for use on normal playback kit, unfortunately, so every recording I know is compressed to an extent, though nowhere near modern pop.
One of the joys of it is one moment a vast orchestra is...
Many hours indeed!
That would not be my recommendation for a Mahler introduction.
Maybe the 4th Symphony and for beautiful melody I love the songs.
This last could be my favourite piece of music of all. It is one of the sad ones though...
When I first discovered, and was blown away by, Mahler in the 1960s due to my love of Kathleen Ferrier I didn't find it depressing at all, just beautiful, but I did know someone who decided he didn't need to live any longer after hearing "Das lied von der Erde"!
I have multiple recordings of...
There is pretty poor infrastructure for roadside charging here in the UK compared to Europe and Scandinavia but I charge at home 99% of the time so zero problem. The battery lasts longer than my bladder and I just plug in whilst eating, drinking or/or going to the toilet which gives me enough...
There is a 70mph speed limit here, and whilst I do add VAT I haven’t gone anywhere near flat out. The acceleration when overtaking makes getting to a high speed inevitable.
Neither top speed nor acceleration are as important as throttle response, steering and handling on the roads around here...
I have had this 14 months now, its throttle response, wide power band, steering, handling and quietness make it by far the best car I own.
If it has a fault it has far more pointless gadgets than I need, but I just ignore them ;)
If you buy amplifiers with high output impedance the FR is changed, particularly if the speaker itself has big impedance swings in the bass, and maybe the optimum position for the speaker in the room may change a bit but maybe not, IME the best speaker position depends on the room dimensions and...
It is a funny thing, the remote is most people's interface to the product so for me its ergonomics are one of if not the most crucial aspects in my buying decision!
I detest up/down volume buttons and have to tolerate them on almost everything we own but have stuck with my main Devialet amp for...
As always the SQ is more dependant on the recording you are playing than the medium it is coming from.
If you are a knowledgeable tape recorder user with good microphones and technique making your own recordings on a first class machine with levels set optimally reel-to-reel is pretty good IME...
As you know I have been involved with turntables most of my adult life including design and concept of them as a vibration transducer - which is fundamentally what they are.
I have 4 still but don't play LPs often, just the ones I already bought over the last 60 years or so.
There are some...
I think that is mainly true in the US Sal due to straight grid of roads with traffic lights at each intersection. I remember when I did an exchange summer and spent 8 weeks in Milwaukee in 1970 seeing this culture for the first time. Weekends on the "main drag" was teenagers cruising and racing...
The hypercar industry isn’t dead since it allows rich people to pose in public in towns.
The bonkers bit is that, usually, by the time you can afford a supercar you may well struggle to get in and out and it is lucky it is pretty well only used for low speed posing since nowhere in public is...
