How much bass trap/panel am I expecting to have to tame the bass below 500Hz?

In and of itself, that's probably a decent start -- I'd look at placement. One thing I've learned in my treatment journey is that it really depends on the room, and there is a lot of experimentation that goes into it to find the best placement. All surfaces should be treated evenly. Slapping a...

    Edifier R2850DB Review (Opinion)

One thing I do notice about these speakers and it's become more obvious as I completed treatment of my listening space, is something weird going on in the 200-400hz region. It's hard for me to describe because it doesn't necessarily show up on the measurements. But it's there all the same. A bit...

How much bass trap/panel am I expecting to have to tame the bass below 500Hz?

The erratic behavior sub 500hz would suggest to me that you need more absorption in that range. In most cases, this means thicker traps, not necessarily more surface coverage.

    Edifier R2850DB Review (Opinion)

The speakers have a generally flat response, which is not how most people would listen to them. I took the woofer and mid range out of my speakers and added extra packing to the speakers and that helped to tame the mid range quite a bit. They are well constructed but the the one area they are...

Unexpected effectiveness of porous bass traps on boundaries?

I feel there's alot more in play here than just the absorber. Room shape, construction materials, substrite, how many external walls (what insulation, if any is present), ceiling and what's above, window placement, door placement, so forth and so on. From the testing I did when I did my...

    Measurements with REW

For most music, I usually have a 4db rise starting around 200 hz to 40hz and a slope starting around 300hz to 10k of -3. I listen around 75dB, so this helps to balance perceived loudness issues.

Speaker position relative to front wall (video)

Without some sort of measurement it's hard to know exactly what is going on. However, we do know that speakers placed close to a boundary do see reinforcement in the bass area. This is problematic as many frequencies benefit from this gain. Worse if placed near a corner. This guy is legit as...

    Measurements with REW

For the mids and highs you'd typically looking at the shape of the curve, not so much the response. From my testing, the difference is minimal -- slightly more at extremes...either super close or super far away from the speakers.

How much bass trap/panel am I expecting to have to tame the bass below 500Hz?

I had considered a full encasement, but had difficulty figuring out the logistics of it all. Basically, it would have been the equivalent of building another ceiling with fabric covering instead of drywall. I wanted the option to move things around and remove it if I didn't like the results...

Perceptual Differences Between Sighted and Unsighted Music Listening

This is me right here. Listening with eyes closed is a much better experience.

    Edifier R2850DB Review (Opinion)

My only real "complaint" about the speakers is the way the two speakers connect to each other. It's a bit janky, but I get it. Still using them to this day and after a few runs with room treatment upgrades and DRC, they sound better than ever. Still impressed by them for their cost.

Ceiling Treatment - Low Ceiling, Decently Large Room

My ceiling is 7'10" and I have panels on it. They are 7.25" thick with a 6" airgap. Other than the occasional bump when I stretch, they really don't impact me much. At first, yeah maybe they added a bit of a weird feel to the room, but you get used to it after awhile.

    DIYing an acoustically transparent desk

Is it putting them on the desk that actually makes the difference or is it changing their position relative to you? I'm only asking because for my setup, removing the desk only makes a very small difference in the 1500-3000hz range and while it's clear in the measurements, I have my doubts...

How much bass trap/panel am I expecting to have to tame the bass below 500Hz?

You can get decent results with Rockwool under 100hz. I just has to be thick enough to matter. In that range, 7.25 would probably be best. 2 sheets to make it 14.5 and that would put a decent sized dent in them. That's what I have in my room. I have a small office and the thick absorption is...

I bought GiK panels works really well

I bought a few tri-corner traps a few years ago from GIK. They were decent enough. Never had any issues with them. When I redid my room, I had an idea to place them on top of the speakers and wedge them between 2 wall mounted traps. Wasn't really expecting them to do all that much. They...

Is it worth doing anything for "traps" in this room?

As it stands now, your best option would be to treat the entire ceiling. Not much room elsewhere and treating 1 sidewall and not the other will cause more problems than it would solve. Something is better than nothing, but for that something to be worth it, you'd need 4" or thicker panels and...

Will 9mm felt panels help with anything?

Ceiling treatments are quite common. Often the areas in the FR affected by the ceiling are in a critical area and sound nasty if they cause constructive interference. A sloped ceiling would be worse since it's dimensions change over a period making more potential issues. I'd recommend buying...

Not a broken system / unpleasant evening

I have an issue like that sometimes. Though for me it's only the low end. It's like my ears get stuffed up for some unknown reason (doctors don't "see" anything wrong and even the vibrations from my own voice can cause me discomfort. Could be stress, who knows. When it's bad, it's bad. Have a...

How high up the frequency range do you apply room correction?

Depends which sounds better. Whatever you do, make sure you are correcting each speaker individually and not going off summation.

    all these 'Desk setups'...?

My speakers are on stands next to the desk. Desk bounce or even issues with the monitor (if it's large enough) are relatively minor compared to some of the other room/equipment related problems. SBIR is an issue that effects more than just desk users. A lot of people prefer to have the...
